  1. Its pretty. And bad ass. At once.
  2. Its difficult. Bragging rights automatically secured once you beat it.
  3. Its a genre. If you don't like it, you don't like the genre. I personally don't like a few genres too, matter of preference in this field.
  4. Adrenaline Rush. Not many games can actually have you feeling this to an intense amount. But if you ever get to the point where you can dodge lunatic level spellcards, you'll start feeling it. Your heart pumps faster and louder, you get a huge blast of excitement and you feel like you just climbed mount everest.
  
  I mean seriously? Of course I enjoy this.

  But the biggest reason why Touhou is so big is probably the music and characters, not the game itself.

  Eh? You asked about the bullet hell and he answered. Just means you simply do not enjoy it like that. I think its kinda like how people get 2000+ on Mabinogi. People with a passion for something will go for it. For me its my first bullet game I got into a few months back. I had saw some odd meme's on it and was like. "Aight whats the big inside jokes?" Played and fell in love with it, at the cost of splitting headaches the first week I played.
  
  As for that sorta passion to it? Turns out a lot of persistent artist happen to like it. With so many characters and an accepting and large fanbase, those who are obsessed like that probably have no fear in indulging fully like that, even it it reaches excessive levels by your perception. Perfection to me feels key into playing the games, because your facing Thousands of bullets with a handful of lives. Some can take that perfection to their own standard which might mean just avoiding it all with no loss of life or even no bombing. I don't understand that one. But maybe someday...

  I play it maybe an average of 2~3 hours a week. I'm still running around fine.
  
  Bad Apple? Thats what I mean by the perfection in the music and character design.
  But you really think people drew out every frame of bad apple on excel? They used a program silly.

  I find SA incredibly easy to 1CC. All you have to do is bomb every attack.
  UFO got easy once you got the hang of it. SO many extra lives.
  
  MoF was technically the easiest game, but also the hardest game to score extra lives off. The scoring system in MoF was so hax difficult and stingy.

  You can't change how many lives you start with in EoSD can you? Anyway its 4 lives. I always go with the defaults.
