  To an extent. A chunk of traffic on nation is built up by regular visitors, most of which end up buying the no-ads upgrade.

  I remember saying something about a donation button years ago and being turned down. I don't even remember what the reason was, but tbh it seems pretty stupid not to have one. Even if you don't get a consistent stream of donations, you'll get something.
  
  But Nation's been going downhill for a while now and it sort of seems like one of those things that, if not stopped soon, won't stop? If that makes sense.

  It's never too early to prepare for the future, and I was perfectly clear that I don't expect any of those possibilities to manifest but have attempted to make what provisions I was able to if they do. An Admin admitting he no longer cares about the site or community (twice in same thread, no less) is not a 'small concern of sustainability', though. Ultimately it's going to be up to Osay and the most any of us can do is offer him options. He shouldn't have to run a site he's no longer interested in, it's not good for him or the site, but the site doesn't have to die or stagnate, the latter of which being his explicitly stated goal, because he's no longer feeling it, nor does he have to leave it behind if/when he no longer runs it.
  
  You know darn well if one of the community is willing to say it a good number have been thinking it, so let's not pretend I pulled this out of the blue or blew it out of proportion just because change is scary. We owe it to Osay to help him find a way to not feel trapped by communal obligation while still ensuring the community can be nurtured and grown.

  Except most of your traffic is from guests, not registered users. And most people who don't want ads use ad blockers not the upgrade. For October for example Southperry's guest:user ratio is 5:1. Yours is about the same as the chart here shows, and more interestingly, you've actually grown in usage since last year this time, although the proportion of your site that's actively registered to unregistered has shrunk;

  The same could be said here, or any forum, it's all about who you interact with, and since they'd be there for their already existing team primarily hedged behind a protective barrier of privacy it wouldn't really matter much. It's a rather last-ditch emergency offer anyhow, not like I'm suggesting they all pack and move today.
