I keep losing 1k~2k profit while commercing. I spend X ducats buying items to transport then I go to a far away town - and lose ducats. What profits?
:fail3:
How the eff am I supposed to gain ducats when I keep losing money? It's a waste of time.

...What?
I don't understand how you can keep losing money. I mean, I certainly didn't do that:

So it is possible.
Where are you commercing from, and what is your merchant rating? That can make a big difference when you're starting out. Also, keep in mind you can preview prices before you sell them - If you see the place you're at is negative and the next town over is positive, you can still go to the next town over.

Commercing isn't a waste of time unless you disconnect a lot or run into master bandits a lot. What towns do you start and end in?
@Gensokyou: Wow...you have practically 100x my ducats....I'm a bit jealous haha.

You shouldn't lose profit if you don't lose goods and don't go to town where it has negative values...

A. Try to not get found by bandits.
B. Stabilize your connection if DC is your issue.
C. Get stronger to face master bandits.

Master bandits are free exp. I believe they give something like 4k or 8k each? It's hardly a waste of time and any ducats/gold lost (in terms of an hourly rate) is probably covered by the bandit badges and gold they drop.
Not that you should be deliberately running into them, but [S]unless you live in australia[/S] you won't be losing much time or money during an ambush. I'd be more worried about getting hardened and vets because they give less exp/money and you can't speed up the bandit boss animation.

That's probably something to note.
In addition, i've had a little think about it and I don't think that unless some guys decide to commerce in a group and spam the same route over and over and over with low-profit items like, say, baby potions or something (which would be really dumb) that there's many items that can actually give a negative profit, even at low merchant ratings. I'm thinking perhaps diet pots, anything from dunby, heat crystals on a bad day and limited goods, which are rather fickle. So i'd really like to know what you're doing.

Just commerce from tara to tir or bangor, pretty much garaunteed the most profit you can get. Oh yeah and elephants.

The only way you can lose profit these days is going to towns with negative values, logging off without service, or cancelling your commerce trip outright. You can't even lose profit from bandits stealing your goods anymore, because the good citizens of Erinn are always ready and willing to beat down the jerks who took them [S]for easy exp[/S].
So, I'm going to ask three questions:
Are you going to towns that have a blue value instead of red?
Are you constantly logging off or disconnecting mid-trip?
Are you constantly cancelling your commerce mid-trip?
The answer to all three of these questions should be no. If any of them are yes, stop doing that.

Someone who's losing ducats trading probably isn't strong enough to handle master bandits.

top lel more like they can't
avoid bandits in the first place. Running into bandits wastes time, especially if there are others commercing.

I can't handle master bandits and i'm not losing ducats trading. I was responding to someone who was talking about ambushes being a huge waste of time, which they're really not if you can kill them.

Yes, I hate invisible spawns with a passion. x.x
