Maybe I'm just miscalculated something. And that 'Right set up', how expensive are they? I'm just new to mabinogi too. But I think with rank 1 smash and rank 1 critical hit may do 7,000 - 8,000 damage... (and that consume a lot of AP and time)
But really!? total level of 700 can do 7,000 - 8,000 damage!? I really want to know which skill they're rank and which equipment they're on (and that even before talent!?). Because right now with my rank 1 windmill and a total str of around 200+ can only done about 250 - 300 damage (450 - 700 cri).
PS. I'm at total level of 700+ right now. I still need a lot of time to fight that 'Ancient Black Grizzly Bear' and it's wounded me a lot even with rank 1 heavy armor mastery and rank 1 defense. I still get 10 - 20 damage when defense (40 - 50 cri).
Edit : I don't want to start new reply and bump this up. But I really want the answer for my question. Maybe I rank wrong skill, or using wrong equipment. So I want to know the 'Right set up' that ironwoman talking about.
Yesterday (the day after this 'original post' has been post), I went into Hard mode Shadow mission. I can do water cannon (rank 1) about 1,500 - 2,500 damage (2,500 - 4,000 Cri) depend on which enermy I attacked. Water cannon can do some job done with 'Chain Cylinder' activated, and shoot out really fast. Then I tried to used 'Summon Golem' Rank 1.
The golem can do about 1,200 - 1,700 damage smash (4,000 - 6,500 Cri) which is really low when compare to pure water cannon. But like I said in the last post (which I believe you already read it), the summon golem is the one if you looking for a way to fight hard monster at begin or mid-game. A beginner or level 400 - 500 hardly do any damage to Hard mode monster. But golem can be a tank and even can take out some monster in 1 hit (cri), which I believe hard mode is somewhat at the beginning of end-game user (or a total level of 1,000+).
PS. If you want to do somuch damage with 'Water Cannon' (like I do). You have to waste some AP on Magic mastery to increase your MP. With the MP of 400+ you can do about 1,000 - 1,500 damage water cannon. As water cannon use 30% of your current MP in base damage calculation.
You're obviously not pure melee, there's your problem. If you think 200 str is good enough to run HM missions, that's a mistake. Even I had higher str without talents back then. Your windmill is only hitting 250-300, of course it won't be as good as golem. Although this has changed slightly during the enlightenment update, alch is more of an early-game shining class... even though it gains damage from stats now, it'll still be inferior to other classes in terms of damage.
And no, my gear wasn't the most expensive back then. Around level 800-900, I believe I had around 330 max dual wielding, and I believe I was using broads back then. I had Vine Delusional hat, basic avenger armor, fleet hard peaca boots, expansive elegant gaunts (I still use the same thing, except I burned this one to put on thames), extraordinary glass fragment clothes, and corundum sonnet accs. My broads were 222, goddess caliburn, both r5. I just know at some point I switched to battles, which increased my max by about 40. At level 800-900, I was smashing about 5-6.5k crit, and at 1.3k, around when thames set finally got introduced, that's when I was able to hit 10k with trans, although with the thames set I normally didn't use back then. Granted, I was pure melee back then, only range and AR ranked for some dex and str in archery. Keep in mind reforges didn't even exist back then. If we were to factor in talent bonuses at level 800-900, even with my mediocre set up, you could be hitting about 6-7.5k. We all know that there are better gears today for not necessarily high price, as well as reforges if you want, since rank 2 and rank 1 reforged 2h swords are so abundant. So as of today's "right set-up and reforges", you'd be hitting higher than I would back in the days with my mediocre set up, not to mention you get AP from just about everywhere. With just the right skills ranked and right gears, you could really be hitting 10k without trans pre-1k. If this is the case, then I wouldn't really see any problem with this person being able to solo HM missions, just by breezing through windmill. If someone is REALLY invested, chance is that they could do 10k even before they hit total 600 mark, but that would be thanks to reforges, so not really gonna take that into account.
To the OP, I really suggest you don't rank golem. It's rather a waste of AP if you're using it just to pass through G1, and even if you're an alchemist, you'd find that water cannon and flame burst are better. I haven't seen any alchs use golem seriously. If you want something like golems, just rank melee and range first along with few life skills, then get into puppetry, it's much more damage (as well as good tankiness).
