I'm just curious about everyone's starting story....when I first started Mabinogi it was just a random ad I had seen on a website that I clicked while waiting for my best friend to get to my house. This was during G2, when she finally got to my house she was like "OMGOSH I WANNA PLAY" and luckily we had two computers, for the next month she would come over just to play, it was funny because we would sit in two different rooms (desktops) and would be yelling across the house as we played, at least until my parents got pissed then we started PMing each other. People used to think we were sisters but we had been best friends since the age of 4.
TL;DR
So how did you start Mabinogi and when was it? I started in G2 with my best friend.

I started back in March 2008 in Open Beta. Someone had posted a video of it on basil market and it caught my attention. Been hooked ever since.

I saw an ad for Mabinogi when I closed Maplestory one day. I clicked the link and watched a lot of the videos on the site and decided to download the game. This was sometime during G3.

I started on May 29 of 2009. I was getting bored of all the other MMOs there were and started putting various keywords into Google to find something different. When I found Mabinogi, I clicked a few of the preview videos on the site and just fell in love with the game. I think I started right after the Alexina Server was released. Everything was such a new adventure back then.

I saw some screenshots and discussion about the game on mmorpg.com back when it was first announced in KR. For years, I kept an eye on the game hoping it would someday see the light of an NA release. I even tried playing the KR version a few times with success. Finally, years later, Mabi was announced for NA. I signed up immediately for the closed beta and was selected. I even won a closed beta "bug squashing" contest and received a 50 dollar Amazon gift card from Nexon, which they actually mailed me. Ever since then, I've been playing off and on. I've met a lot of important people to me and have had many unforgettable memories and adventures. The game has a special place in my heart at this point.

Sister showed me a magazine ad for Mabinogi, told me how it looks like Harvest Moon (the farming and cooking life), and she started playing. I didn't want to cause I dislike online games because of Runescape/Maple Story, tried Mabinogi for a few hours, and have been hooked ever since.

Back in '08,several guildies in Maplestory mentioned about this new game Nexon was releasing...they also mentioned it looked like Harvest Moon a bit. So,since I was hooked on Harvest Moon back then I decided to check it out. Ever since then I've been in Mabi.
Also, back when I joined there was that Amazing Race event going on....and you had to pay to do the storyline.

I read some magazine article about it and I saw the video page online where they had collected all the trailers back when it was like g2 just coming out and then egos and stuff like thatt. I watched those videos a ridiculous amount but I was scared to make an account cus my father was and is annoyingly overprotective. I asked my mom and then he got mad at me for making an account cus he thought I would have to pay or something and didn't know what I was doing. Somehow I forgot to actually verify my account through email after and never was able to log in. So I ended up not playing until one year later when alexina had just been released during the same time and I had finally been allowed my own email account.

I found the game as soon as it hit Open?/Closed? Beta in NA, before there was even word of a EU version, I tried it but got confused by the combat style.
(I lost to a Raccoon in the Forest of Souls and ragequit)
I forgot about the game for a long time since then.
Quite some time later (3.5 years ago), I was a bit bored of the game I was playing at the time, so I decided to go back through a list of games and came accross Mabinogi again. I had a bague memory of playing it (even for a few minutes) and decided to give it another go, my English reading comprehension had gone up a lot by then, and the game became fun as I slowly learned to understand it.
I had to start on EU of course, since NA had gotten a region block by then.
EU was at about mid-G3 at the time, I made lots of friends quite fast, despite the very low population on the server I chose.
[Insert story of my life on Mabi EU]
...
At around December 2011, my human (main) got blackrobed, my Giant followed shortly after.
I was lucky to still have my Elf, although at that time, there wasn't much left as EU was already declining rapidly.
Due to connections *cough* I knew of EU's official shutdown since mid-March 2012.
But I didn't want it to end, I had grown too attached to Mabinogi, so me and my friend decided to proxy ourselves into NA.
End March, EU's shutdown gets officially announced, servers will remain up for a few more weeks, cash shop will close, refunds were to be announced at a later date, we would be allowed to "continue our Fantasy Lives" in NA but....only on new characters.
I didn't care, I already made a new character on Tarlach anyway.
I started on Tarlach as a Giant, but for some reason, I got bored of it at around total level 200, I guess I preffered Human versatility.
Another year and a half passed since then, and that's where we are today.

NA since May 2012.
Though I played 1-2 years on another server (EU). My main MMOs are RPGs and f2p but I got sick of stereotypes like Flyff. When I first saw Mabi it looked exactly like what I wanted and it still is (mostly).
I'm unhappy with a few things but still a pretty active player (with breaks!). When I started on EU I was scared of combat, today I can't even remember why. I had a vagabond life with 2 other newbs and it was pretty entertaining. We made camp fires, ran around the world and attempted dungeons (failed hard at Math xD). I was still poor and weak when EU closed.
On NA it went totally differently. I read a few guides and confidently gathered money to buy better equip. I also knew how to skill to get strong faster. That's what people mean when they talk about experienced newbs and nooby newbs I guess.

A friend of a friend told me about it and I started playing. The other two never got as hooked and I've just stayed with it all this time. I started near the end of G3, just a while before they let us have free stuff.
