Hi guys. I have a red crossbow that I'm bent on using as my ranged weapon, so I have some questions on how to use it.
Crossbow - Mabinogi World Wiki
I'm thinking of going either the 190 (shortest range) or the 131 (longest range) upgrade sequence.
It all comes down to this: With a crossbow, does range matter? I'll probably use it more for dungeons rather than pvp. And I'm probably going to get a bow ego for that long range snipe shot, so in the end, what is better?
Also, can you zero-shot with a crossbow? and how does the crossbow compare with other weapons for human players?

Upgrade it for the most possible crit. Would help if you enchanted it with Lizard Revolver or something, but as lon as you upgrade it for crit, you're going in the right direction.

I'd go for either of the 190 upgrades-- they both give the same crit.
Range affects your aim speed first and foremost, so just be wary of that when picking your upgrades.

Most likely you'll be zero-shotting or close to zero-shotting, since the crossbow sucks at max range, which is why I'd recommend the 19-37 190 upgrade over the 25-27 one. If you're a human, you might like the Long Bow better.

190 Short Range :3 Because you'll need the crit and range won't matter that much on a crossbow for dungeoning

Even at close range i still miss alot with my max crit xbow :(
I'm starting to just think xbows suck in general.

Crossbows are superior only in critical hits, and shouldn't really be used unless you're in a closed space (dungeon rooms) with single aggro.
In my personal opinion, using a xbow without Revolver or Lizard Enchants is asking for trouble.
P.S. what's your range rank? If it's not 1, I'd understand, but if it's 1 and is missing a lot as you say, we have problems

All of my ranged skills are rank 1, bar Support shot.
I just would rather use a much more reliable bow, where the xbow is really hit miss for me, since the range of the xbow is so short, with Arrow Revolver mobs get knocked out of range easily, so i have to run a bit just to be able to aim more. Whereas i would be able to just stay stationary with a composite bow and the knockback from AR isn't an issue.
Mainly it's that even though xbow is mobile, i don't find it useful since the shots miss too often with the -range upgrades.

Personally, I can't stand upgraded crossbows. The range is pathetic and they lack damage. I use the Average Damage And Critical Total (ADACT) to determine overall ranged usefullness. Simply add the average damage at 80% balance to the critical total. ie: when comparing spirit ranged weapons w/all 40, the crossbow is greater than 143, leather long bow is 147 and ring bow is 151.
However, I own and love the spirit crossbow. The range is 1800 units (which is decent) while it adds mobility. Plus bolts rock. My only complaint is the lack of campfire bonus.
That being said, I advise against the general use of crossbows.

They have the one thing archers NEED though, which is critical. While still using +damage for armor, you can still easily get over 120% crit with a lizard revolver well upgraded crossbow. Maybe I'm just the only one who uses a crossbow often enough to notice the crit is helpful ; ;

Hmm...
Stiff Caliburn Crossbow...
Good idea? Lawlz.
20k per point repair fee will burn a hole through my wallet though.
Okay that's a terrible idea.
How much will a Lizard / Revolver enchant cost me?

I don't know what server you play on, but on Rauiri, Revolver Xbows usually for sale for 400-500k, and Lizard Items/Enchants are usually anywhere from 150k-400k.
Also, note the upgrades on wiki don't reach the true max crit potential.
I have 2 revolver xbows with 48% Crit, which were bought from nerys...so they are base stat.

I'd do Highest Crit path. It gives the 2nd highest damage and the highest crit. Bows should ALWAYS be modded for highest crit. Especially if you are an Elf.
0 Shotting with a Crossbow can be difficult. The short the bow, the slower it charges. But, you get to shoot the bolts faster than a longer bow (0 shotting).
I wouldn't worry about the short range with the Crossbow. You will get used to it fast and the fact that you can run while having range loaded is a bonus. You can always use a pet if you get multi aggrod from high aggro monsters with low HP.
