Does repairing 1 point at a time or perfect repair make a difference in success?

Does it make a difference if you ask the weapon smith to repair your item 1 point at a time, or to just do a perfect repair?

I was reading a thread about people's speculations on things that they thought helped Fergus from Tir Chronaill not fail as often, some of which included gifting him a pair of women's underwear (lmao), or letting him repair cruddy stuff until he makes a mistake, because that person said its rare for him to screw up twice in a row. Other suggestions were repairing when it was sunny out or also waiting until there was only one durability point left.

Has any of this proven to be true? Not just for Fergus but repairing weapons and armor in general? I have a feeling it's speculation at this point lol.. But I was wondering if the one point at a time verses perfect repair makes any difference.

One other thing, does blessing your item with the Holy Water of Lymilark lower the chance of the weapon smith making a mistake while repairing? I thought I remember Fergus saying it does but the description I read in my inventory doesn't mention this.

It's better to repair points one at a time because although the other way does all the repairs at once, it calculates each repair individually. This means if you fail one point while repairing all points at once, all durability points afterwards will be repaired with no blessing where you otherwise could have stopped repairing, re-blessed, then repaired again. Better to repair once at a time if u dont put a repair protection pot on it. However, its better to do full repair if u have put a repair protection pot on it (or so I'm told).

The facts start here: Every NPC's success rates are blatantly shown to you before you even start to repair. Now to answer your topic question on whether it's better to do 1 point repair or full repair, basically it's more safe to do 1 point repair. Why? Because as aforementioned, Blessed Items increase repair rates. When you do full repair, it's as if you're spam clicking 1 point repair for the item you're trying to repair. Don't forget that once the repair fails, the blessing on the item disappears. Because full repair basically is like spam clicking 1 point repair without stopping until it's at full durability, it can still fail in between "repairs".

I.e. you fully repair a 5 durability item, it repairs the first 3 but fails at the 4th durability. It still has 1 more durability to repair but since it failed at the 4th durability you don't have blessing on the item for the 5th final repair. With 1 point repair on the other hand if it fails you can immediately stop, and rebless the item then continue to repair without lowering the success rate.

Is it really necessary? Up to you. For me 1 point repair takes too long. I just fully repair and go on my way. As aforementioned, 1 point repair is basically safer if it fails because it allows you to rebless the item in the event the repair fails.
