As always, nothing here is conclusive. I'll be taking community feedback to determine any necessary changes before applying anything.
Problem: Disciplinary actions against members breaking the rules are too lenient. They are getting away with light slaps on the wrists and repeat offenses are not leading them to be punished properly under the infraction-count automated banning system.
Solution: Increase the values of infractions to give them more weight. Lengthen the expiration date for warnings.
With current values, it takes far too many minor offenses until a user is given their first ban. A 3 month warning expiration is also giving people freebies to get out of certain actions. Since warning infractions are worth 0 points, and are almost always given out before actual point value infractions are given, it should be fine to add a noticeable amount of weight to each infraction without being too strict.
Changes:
- All warning periods have been increased to 120 days (from 90)
- All minor infraction periods have been increased to 150 days (from 120)
- The infraction value of Signature Size Violation (Minor) has been increased to 4 (from 2)
- The infraction value of Signature Size Violation (Major) has been increased to 6 (from 4)
- The infraction value of Spamming (Minor) has been increased to 4 (from 2)
- The infraction value of Spamming (Major) has been increased to 6 (from 4)
- The infraction value of Rude/Bullying-Behavior (Minor) has been increased to 6 (from 4)
- The infraction value of Rude/Bullying-Behavior (Major) has been increased to 8 (from 6)
- The infraction value of Flaming/Insulting (Minor) has been increased to 6 (from 5)
- The infraction value of Posting Inappropriate Behavior (Minor) has been increased to 6 (from 4)
- The infraction value of Posting Inappropriate Behavior (Major) has been increased to 8 (from 6)
- The infraction value of Trolling/Intentional-Rulebreak (Minor) has been increased to 6 (from 5)
If you are not aware of how our infraction system works, refer to this page! If you have any additional questions, comments, or suggestions, please let me know by discussing it in this thread.
My only current concern is that these changes might autoban certain members sitting on the edge. We'll have to see how it works, and take precautions to make sure those individuals are looked in to.
Also, to address something:
Then a rule needs to be created that has severe consequences for users mocking others that have received infractions and/or bans. Something like a 1-day ban on the first offense, and possibly doubling on each repeat offense.
Otherwise the report function just degrades into a tattletale scenario.
There was another reason I had in mind but there isn't really much to be done about that one.
It's the same reason as to why certain people dance on a table when a certain user gets in trouble because they did something bad.
Of course we also take care of things like that when people express that "joy" vocally, but we can't let it go to their heads either, if you know what I mean.
Hmm, this is harder to explain than I thought it would be.
This actually falls in lines with "Rude/Bullying Behavior" and will be treated as such.
