How can you use Ice Spear spell like that? Does it have a reforge or something? It seems it continues to freeze the recent emerging enemies.
Read the two posts above yours.
I did. It says "Ice Spear Explosion Range" which increases explosion range of ice spear.
But I still don't understand how it can affect the next wave of monsters. I mean it does not say anything about it. I thought it would only affect the monsters which are currently visible.
Ice Spear has always been able to do that, even without reforge... the ice spread of a few fractions of second after ennemies dies. If server is not laguing, the next wave always appear before the ice start spreading so when ice spread, the next wave is already out ready to be frozen. As long as the ice spear damage is high enough to kill ennemy, the ice will spread.
Thank you for the explanation, I thought it was due to some other reforge. Then it seems bolt spells and thunder/ice spear are more suitable to be used actively during combat due to their faster cast rates than fireball/hailstorm.
The usefulness of any tactic in Mabinogi depends on the situation.
Ice Spear: Most useful overall, sets up blaze, hinders party members not using Flame Burst (ecology, TOA, etc)
Thunder: Most useful Snap Cast stack, party members hinder effectiveness (Rafting, Falias, NPC)
Fireball: Alternative to Thunder, improved radius, no stun, heavier critical damage (Hillwen)
Fire/Ice: Heavy single target burst damage, light single target burst DPS (Anywhere when appropriate)
Fire/Lightning: Alternative to Fireball, reduced radius, heavier critical damage (Anywhere when appropriate)
Ice/Lightning: Alternative to Gunslinger, less flexible, reduced effectiveness (Anywhere when appropriate)
Shockwave: Moderate damage, instant cast, heavy mana consumption. Use to interrupt attacks or defeat groups of weak/weakened enemies. (Anywhere)
Blaze: Ridiculous fucking damage, huge pain in the ass to pull off (NPC, bosses, etc)
Meteor Strike: Notable balance issues, heavy damage is expected, does not cause agro (Hillwen, NPC, Ecology, claimh solas, doppleganger, other bosses, etc)
Hail Storm: Extremely heavy splash damage coupled with a lengthy load time and immobility; crisis support recommended (NPC, scathach, TDB, etc)
Ice Spear and Hail Storm are the most consistently effective magic skills overall. Blaze and CC Firebolt are very absurd but they hold poor synergy with the rest of your skills and each sport notable issues. The best way to progress through magic would be to start with a cheap CC Savage Fire Wand, graduate to a fully upgraded/enchanted/reforged Hermit Staff, and then finish your arsenal with a reforged Savage Fire Wand or Savage Ice Wand.
