It's the material they use when creating the paintings.
Like using crayons or using colored pencils.

Watercolor paint come in hockey-puck shaped impliments, they're really compact powders of different color varieties that have to be used with a dipping cup, or pool for actual use. The only downside is that watercolors are a bitch to work with, and you gotta get a brush that sponges up the paints you use, or else you won't be able to paint much of anything except wet paper.
