I know there is a thread for this somewhere but I didn't want to revive since its so bloody oldd.
This is my first entrian odyssey game ever and first person dungeon crawler I've ever played. I still haven't even opened the game's box (cus I love boxes and am savoring opening it) so no spoilers on story or spoilery things. I just wanted to know some combat tips cus I don't really get it. I usually just spam attack button when I play turnbased games..
SO TIPS PLEASEEE :cheer:

Arthur has terrible MP at the start of the game so try focusing on raising that.
It's not good to max out every single one of your skills you won't even have enough points to max them out anyways
Keep an eye out for shortcuts, they looks like plants. In the first stratum they look like a bunch of yellow flowers
Mining/taking/chopping is essential to getting better gear and so are monster drops
Figure out your character builds early on, the last thing ou want is a horrible character who will die during boss fights
Always carry two Adrienne threads
Grimoires are really useful, gamefaq has a guide on how to use them.

ohh thanks a ton, should I start with the classic mode (cus I'd rather pick my characters) or just do story?

Depends on what you want.
Story Mode has an extra dungeon and unlocks two classes to use in Classic Mode (Gunner and Highlander), but if you don't really care about the classes or the extra dungeon go ahead.

Stay far, far, faaaaaar away from the story mode.
Don't be afraid to experiment, Compass said you should have a build in mind early on, but since you're new to the series and DC's in general, looking for builds and asking WHUTS BEZT CLASS HURRCHEMIST OR KEKXER will take away from the enjoyment and will only overwhelm you. Pick what you'd like, see what they do, fuck around in the early floors and re-roll if needed.
Read every description, go to the pub and select gather info for tips, write down what you think it's useful, and never leave town without an Ariadne Thread at least.

Story mode isn't bad, it's just not amazing.

If you aren't too much into the whole "discover what's what" thing, you can always use gamefaqs to get the maps and plot them out beforehand.
Also, if you come across any mega rare guild cards, DON'T ACTIVATE THEM UNTIL YOUR CHARACTERS ARE AT LEAST LEVEL 70.
The grimoire stone you get from the guild card totally depends on your level. So don't waste one that would get you the mega legendary grimoire by using it at level 8 and getting one with, like, Mine or Take on it.

Rapealope go away!
I couldn't stand story mode, I want to bloody murder Frederica and Arthur, the Tales-like skits feel out of place in Etrian and the ear raping VA is almost Chaos Wars tier in awfulness.
Only redeeming factor was Raquna, Raquna is cute but her I'M CANADIAN schtick got old pretty soon.

Save for the grimoire part, this is terrible, terrible advice. EO is not for people who don't want to experiment and discover things on their own. Might as well go play some Tales of Lightning Fantasy if you just want to read a FAQ and be done with it.

I was thinking about doing this for the starter quest.. I did the whole map and had a swell time and then I went back to the quest guy and he just kept telling me to go do it. I probably miss drew something and have yet to find it.. I don't want to do it a second time since I started over into classic mode and made my own team.

WOW DUDE
I LOVE YOU, BUT NO. JUST NO.
The voice acting is not that bad, it's actually pretty good. (Seriously Chaos Wars? That's way too harash man, way too harsh)
Also Raquna is best girl, and I'll never get old of her being Canadian.

Atlus has done better, DeSu OC probably has the best VA in an Atlus game. Arthur and Frederica are ear rape and Raquna's accent sounds so forced it hurts. Only decent VA in the whole game comes from the Pub NPC.
