Not for early/midgame. Especially Giants.
I have moderate cp (around 2.3~5k I believe), and I already know cp is a terrible way to measure usefulness. There will be Elves are human archers that are like 2k cp and still do as much as I do with lance, while I see people who can't even do 7k climactic crash with 2.8k cp (and they're master puppeteers using demonic bars too).
High cp pretty much means you have high str and/or high hp. In order to be useful, the first case should be true, or first and second, but not the third, since high hp doesn't really tell me much.

It's usually a good indicator of how useful they're going to be.
It might not mean anything to you, but it does to me.
Seems like you're going against everything I post lol
If someone has 1.7k cp they could easily be an end game archer since dex barely gives any cp. Cp really isnt good enough indicator to kick someone from a party unless they have abysmally low cp like under 1k to 1.3k. And honestly with reforges in the mix now, even one of those low cp people can still do moderately good. It's really a horrible way to determine how good a person is.
Not going against everything you say, but cp is hardly a good reference of skill in mabi. [S]You should look at my post in small questions thread and see wat i said after you posted.[/S]

I'd argue that it's a better litmus test of usefulness than total level is.
Better doesn't mean its useful. There really isnt a good way to make sure someone is at least capable of helping in a dungeon, unless you put up ridiculous total level restrictions in the end your always going to gamble when it comes to pugs.

Strength is one of the highest cp giving stats which is why I used it as a reference. Of course you can rank up something like thunder and then stack all the hp u want and you will end up with high cp too, but in the end ull probably end up with even less use then someone who stacked str.

Actually most of the people I've seen with 2.7k-3.1k CP with sub-8k totals aren't people with really high str/HP, but people who have finished off magic and alchemy talents with high MP/stam and okay to decent str.

This whole off topic debate is such a mute point, I don't even care to reply anymore LOL

Confession: I watch threads like these to wait for the off topic drama to occur and look back fairly often to see all the new arguments being made and find it extremely entertaining

You might find that CP is hardly a reference of skill in mabi, but I do not. It is an opinion I hold. It has served me well, whenever I'm with someone with a low-ish amount of CP they tend to be a lot let useful than one with higher CP.
This is a confessions thread, I'd appreciate if you'd stop telling me I'm flat out wrong.

I secretly dislike when people judge a book by its cover.

I used to think any giant around 2k would be mediocre at best... Then I met Gio.
I used to think any human around 1.5k would be mediocre at best... Then I met Kinsoo.
I used to think any elf around 1.3k would be mediocre at best... I still think that.

When I was noob I used to beg in Dunby. I used to run around naked saying: "It's my birthday! Can I please have some spare things or money? I'm poor."
Believe it or not, that summer I made like 1m just off of begging (That was a lot for me).
Thanks to all those folks who gave me money for free through my begging.
[S]Yes, I'm poor.[/S]

I would sometimes put on intermediate clothes and pretend to be a new person, or a semi-new who is 800 to 1,500 total and have fun running in my weak form with other people to form friends.
Of course, it isn't completely easy. I am 13k+ and my stats are pretty up there, but I say things like I only focus on one build so my stat for that certain stat is high (like if I am using a sword + shield for int-adv... I just say I put all my AP into warrior skills). I mean, hitting 7k+ smash with an unupgraded/unechanted/unreforged weapon is sort of weaving it, but so far it has worked.
It's quite fun to "grow-up" again with a players less experienced than you but willing to work with you.

I might as well send some off:
- I used to glitch a lot. Many, many of my skills that I ranked/mastered have been through river glitching.
- My main method of leveling before I came back was Dorren's Request glitching. That's one of the main reasons why I ranked Alchemy.
- I abused the hell out of the Elf horseback archery glitch (shooting in the process of moving nets a 100% hit, the same one mentioned in the tips/tricks thread) during guild wars.
- When I was a Royal Alch, I hated helping out most people, and at many points just told them to let me do it (g10 final for example).
- I have a Layered Gemma Robe collection, my favorite one is the one in my avatar.
- I can never be set on a certain skill set. I usually get bored midway through and switch over. This in turn has made me pretty weak for my level. (cc+4 firewand strong though, so it's k)
- I don't really care for gear. I do have a full Chinese Dragon set, but it has non-optimal enchants, if enchants at all. I couldn't care less about reforges as well, as they're too much of a hassle, and cost way too much money to get anything decent out of them (in my experiences with them).
- I would rather sell something 20% lower than it's price so that I can get rid of it, rather than trying to constantly sell it.

-Despite its usefulness,I personally hate the way Puppetry works when I tried the skills. I enjoy partying with puppeteers though.
-When everyone else would simply stand around doing nothing in a party (i.e Snowball event, blue team),I'd be the one to go try and win anyway, even if others shouted about it.
-Despite seemingly being partly-perfectionist,I likely won't ever Master a skill if it isn't one I use for combat.
-used to randomly go to peoples' homesteads just because I could

Oh well, everyone bot music nowadays. As for gunner, well, let's just say it was necessary.
