Pretty sure at some point we've been apart of some sort of community whether it be it a guild, chat, message board, ect that isn't alive or as lively anymore. Here are some of mine (some names might be edited due to the advertising rule)
Long post!
Sparkle (something something)- The community itself had like idk 100+ members, but chat itself only had like 10 - 15 members at most. We all got along great and had frequent voice chats. co-op nights, fun chats . My good PC broke down and that's when stuff went downhill.
I'd go on chat with an old Pentium 4 (Intelnium. This CPU will never overheat) and I'd tell the guys that I'm not sure when I'd be back. This didn't stop certain members asking me the same question, and I'd tell them the same thing that I'm working on it, but no ETA.
And it would only get worse as I continued to join chat and 2 members would constantly harass me about it and I told them to stop which they didn't. Resigned as moderator, left and never went back. Heard it's dead now. Got a few "Compass come back we miss you/ it's not the same without you!" messages, but I just told them to friend me on steam instead.

Last.FM - I'd hang out with some few broskies at two specific shoutboxes. We'd get banned for trolling. We make alts to avoid bans, but after the recent one it just ain't the same, not dead though.

VG - Was a great site with a great community (message boards and chat), turned into shit almost a year ago. It was one of the best community I ever participated it. Everyone got along really well for such a big site, and all the mods are incredibly friendly and if you ask them like "Hey wanna co-op a game?" They'd be "Yeah, sure thing bud".
What went wrong? The forums became filled with shitposters, all kinds too. You have the game spoilers, the know-it-alls/entitled users/smartasses, the spammers do post thingslike "okay" in all threads, and the unfunny (half meme) users. I confronted one of the meme users and he said something along the lines of "it's our obligation as gamers to ensure that we persevere comedy in games and gaming communities", but I assure you it was more idiotic than that. And it seems like the mods just stopped caring about the forums and it's now so bad that's normal to be a shitposter
And as you can tell the old members do not get along with the new members . A few days ago I created a topic based on this "controversy" and proceeded to about how easily offended game journalists are and how it's getting harder and harder to take gaming journalism seriously with these type of articles and here come a few new(er) members saying "read the entire article" because I "missed the point".
I responded to them saying that I did and asked them what I missed. Only one responded saying something "I don't see why you're letting some easily offended journalist get to you" even though the point I was making that gaming journalism is becoming a joke with the easily offended writers popping up everywhere.
Chat isn't so bad, there's a few mods who have a "you're not going to shit up chat like you did with the site" frame of mind, but just like the forums chat really dulled out.
