Cause the last thread is like a month old and I didn't want to double post it.
So, I finally did succeed in obtaining some last week, and have been more or less watching the markets. Its interesting to see how pool mining lets even crappy old CPUs actually produce surprising yields.
Its not too late to get in, but the window is closing. By mid-February the block payouts will be reduced in half, making it a lot harder to get.
I am rather amused though, because after spending part of the weekend 'day trading' in bitcoins it looks like this really is a thing and could go places- like tripling in value in a week with no sign of staying stopped for more than a half a day.

Doge is now above 0.0006 USD

To the moon alright. 24 hour peak of 156 satoshi, I was expecting it to top out near 100 and fall back.
It doubled in value last night after some chinese guy pumped the living daylight out of the market.

Oh my god where is Ashikoki!
Dogecoin tops 278 satoshi, and still shows signs of going further.
At this rate I'll be looking at a pretty substantial amount of money... from nothing more than some otherwise-wasted CPU time.

Its a bit more involved than that- CPU mining is quite inefficient now because the difficulty has gone up making it harder to get.
To mine for doge in any significant amount requires high end video cards and special software for them, although that software is free to get at least.
They can also be bought easily enough, and are expected to continue gaining value for quite some time.

Dogecoin according to cryptsy is at approximately 200 satoshi, so we've seen a slight slump in the prices. But at a total supply volume of over 54 billion dogecoins mined, that is quite impressive. Remember, the value of 1 doge is always 1 doge!
I quit mining at 300 difficulty, since my computer is not a mining rig and the payout exceeded energy spending. The difficulty is currently over 1000, and the payout halved, so I couldn't possibly re-enter the world of digging without buying some dedicated litecoin gear (which I won't). I haven't bought any either, nor have I really paid close attention to dogecoin news lately. Too busy, and my spare attention had been on bitcoins.
[S]I do believe dogecoins will continue to grow as it has, but the alarming rate at which it has grown is a cause for great concern. Dogecoin is only a little over two months old, but has already met a market cap of 62 million dollars, trading over 3 million in the past 24 hours. This is actually contrary to one of the primary reasons as to why dogecoin is so huge to begin with. It's fun until serious money is involved, and serious money is now involved. Since the coin is based on a meme (which by nature is spontaneous and lasts a couple years at most), how much longer do we have before interest wanes and we return to the bit and lite? With so many people having already cashed out large profits from this currency, haven't we already gone to the moon, without realizing it?
Well, dogecoin payout is still comparatively better than litecoins, so it has that edge for now. I have about a hundred dollars in dogecoins sitting around, but it really is a risky investment. Won't be buying any more for now. It's great to see actual exchanges integrate doge though, it's all moving too fast for me.
