title was too long long so I cut it short
With some people using Senran Kagura Burst‘s cover as proof of the game industry’s rampant misogyny, Marvelous AQL has defended themselves saying that they would be sued for false advertisement if they put anything else on the cover.

The cover features a woman storing a scroll between her breasts, something that could be interpreted as something much dirtier. This cover can only be seen in the European physical release of the game. Marvelous AQL Europe CEO Harry Holmwood explained that the cover’s design was necessary as they had to work around European consumer protection laws.
“When working with Zen United on publishing this game, we had a bit of trouble coming up with a cover that clearly advertised what the game was about,†said Holmwood in an interview with MCV, “In order to make sure we did not break any laws, we had to explicitly show that there was sexual content in the game. The original Japanese cover was just not sexual enough.â€

“So what you see is what you get,†continued Holmwood, “If this game did not have sexy women in it, no one would buy it because the game would just be another boring beat ‘em up. We did try to add some quotes about how good the game was on the cover, but we couldn’t find any. We found many quotes about how people used this game for other purposes, but we felt that wasn’t necessary. Most people can look at our version of the cover and figure out what this game is for.â€
Later on in the interview, Holmwood defended the European cover from critics who say they are promoting a misogynistic gaming culture or are just being sexist in general.
“I’m not sure how this is sexist,†defended Holmwood, “Both men and women can play this game just fine. I mean, no matter which way you look at it, you’re going to be viewed as a dirty pervert for buying this game regardless of which gender you are. And we Europeans already have that image so it doesn’t bother us.â€
Holmwood also compared this game to Grand Theft Auto V, a game where people can have sex with, beat up and kill female prostitutes. He’s surprised that no one is supporting a game where there are actually female protagonists.

It would make perfect sense if it was true though.

No, he isn't stupid.
If he can justify himself for why it isn't sexist, I'm willing to agree with it. Besides, if people are willing to complain about THIS, why not do something about pornography, prostitution and all that other shit? I mean, have you even seen any of the new advertisement for all these damn new MMOs yet? It's all about attracting guys, drawing girls with larger than normal breasts and flaunting them in skimpy swimsuit-like clothing. And those, I'm very sure, are blatant false advertisement.
Here we have a guy that finally got advertising right, and we're shooting him down for it?
The only problem I can see with advertising like this is that Europe does not have the R-21 section within a game store, so kind of selling it publicly would be a little too much, IMO.

It's sexist because he's sexualizing female characters.
Of course, if he did that for both genders, then it wouldn't be sexist, but he's not.
Furthermore, he's justifying his
ads being sexist, not the actual game being sexist (though he tried to, his justification was silly, and saying that he couldn't be innovative enough to make it fun or have interesting characters).

That's misogynistic men for ya'. Always trying to use the "sex sells" excuse to make another generic, male-fantasy-centric game. As if we don't have enough games, movies, shows, books, and various other examples of treating women like sex dolls scattered throughout history. Sure as hell hasn't changed much in the modern times either.
Still, you have to admit that it's kind of funny to see their tiny little brains trying so hard to make up a legitimate excuse for their blatant sexism.

He's right at the end. Strong female protagonists being strong, beautiful, and feminine and everyone loses their minds. I'm starting to think video game females are only allowed to wear jeans/tshirt and have a size B bust. (Any bigger means sexualizing and smaller means loli)
There's feminists who are complaining why there's no Wonder Woman movie. Wonder Woman is busty and she's pretty much wearing a bathing suit.

The thing is, the game itself is made by a country that has nothing against making fake female characters as sexual avatars. He is making an advertisement for a game that's sexist, and it's bound to be advertised in a particular way that is true to the game itself, is it not?
I mean, for all we know, he is doing it on purpose to see the reaction of the general public. This is pretty much giving him free publicity, yer know?
I don't think it's stupid. In fact, if anything, I think he just made use of the media's outrageous outlook for stupid stuffs to label as sexist to his own advantage. Props to him if he makes it to the clear with it.

Well...they're being honest, and while I don't support the type of game, everything does seem to be in order here.
If you make a sex-sells game, you should use sex to sell it...but please, just don't make the game in the first place q_q

I read onion as the vegetable (it wasn't capitalized, which really confused me).
