hallo everyone,
I've played Mabinogi about 2 years ago for a while and I remembered it being being a nice MMORG with decent graphics and low specs, so when I got a new laptop I remembered the game and felt like playing it once again.
Sadly, Mabinogi looks a lot worse on this laptop compared to my old (and now broken) one. Possibly due to this laptop having a 'intel hd 4000' graphic card and my old one a nvidea one (I now get the graphic card error uppon start up as well).....
The reason I'm not accepting the bad graphics and asking you guys is because I throught that Intel HD 4000 cards are pretty common, for laptops at least. So my question is: is there anyway to make Mabinogi look prettier with this type of graphic card? For example by somehow being turning anti-alliasing on (which was possible with nvidea cards in a roundabout way)? Or are there any other settings that I should change? Or is it simply not possible to make it look any better?
EDIT: I forgot to mention this: when I installed Mabinogi there was an error (something about it not being able to download and it being unable to find the installation path), however, everything worked fine when I closed the installer and tried starting the game. I doubt it's what makes the graphics look bad, but it's weird at least....

I'm not sure if you can make it look prettier than it already should be by default... Are you sure it isn't just how the graphics are? Some of the older stuff in the game will be more blurry and pixelated than the newer things which are nice and high-res quality.
Maybe you can post screenshots to show what you mean by the graphics being bad, like is there anything glitchy? Or is it blurry? Or something like that.

Nop, I'm not sensitive to bad graphics normally, but I saw immediatly that Mabi looked (way) worse than I used to know it. Especially when walking around everything is quite a blur (for example, the grass).... The more I see it, the more I think it's because of the anti-alliasing not being on, which I was used to on my old laptop.
EDIT: http ://img265.imageshack.us/img265/3264/jaggededges.jpg < after searching for the right English word for my issue I found this pic which shows it pretty well, allthough it's from another game, many lines in mabinogi look like this as well.... (I chopped up the URL cause I don't seem to be allowed to post one as new user)

Ah, I see so just it's the anti-alias... but I don't think there's a way to fix that unless you use full screen and try the "Full-screen Anti-alias" option, but I have never tried it so I do not know if it works or helps much.
Other than that, I don't see any options for the anti-aliasing, except on shadows.
It could also be a resolution thing, if your computer is really small and has larger pixels. I don't know if graphics cards would affect it as much as the screen itself. @_@

After having played for two hours, fiddling around with the settings and trying to walk in different areas, and also watching gameplay videos to compare with the graphics in my game, I have to conclude something is really wrong with the compatibility of my laptop to Mabinogi. Once again: I'm no nitpicker, so by now I'm 100% sure these graphics are not normal... Under here the problems:
1. when walking around (in some areas this is worse than another) there is something which I would describe as 'static' over the parts in the BG, it's everywhere, both on the trees you're moving by as well as the ground. First I throught this was due anti-alliasing not being on like I said before, but it looks just too crappy to be caused only by that. When standing still most things are fine, but the difference with walking is too big for it to be normal (in none of the gameplay vids I watched this is present btw, at least by far not as bad as in my game)
2. the edges of things ingame are REALLY bad, once again like I said before I throught it was anti-alliasing not being on before, but the more I play think it's not only that, some lines are really too crappy to be normal.
3. the game feels really glitchy overall, shadow is flickering very glitchy at some places for example (yes, you can turn shadows off, but still) and it has just a buggy/glitchy overall feel to it.
4. to 'support' the claim it's not me being a nitpicker Mabinogi has crashed thrice allready, once a 'hacksshield error' and twice a black screen only being solvable by 'control alt delete'. Reinstalling did not help solve this since I got a black screen again almost immediatly.
I would like to know the experiences from laptop owners with intel HD 3000/4000 graphic card, or solutions from other people.... Please help me!

You can force Anti-aliasing with your Nvidia or AMD control panel but it appears as if you have an integrated graphics card, basically you don't have one so you have no control over things like that. Your only choice if you want Anti-Aliasing in particular is to install Abyss, which has an option to allow you to utilize Mabinogi's in-game AA options. You'll have to Google that yourself since discussion isn't allowed here on it.

thank you for suggesting and I will try it at least, but as I said: I'm 100% sure it's not only the anti-alliasing, at least not ONLY that....

There are mods that can make ur game look more hd, but I'm not sure that's the fix you are looking for. If you want to have a link to the mods I mentioned your welcome to pm me about it.

PM'ed you, will probably be too busy to try 'em out the next days, but will report later if it solved (part of) the problems.
Not gonna give on Mabinogi, 'cause even though there were serious issues while playing it, I remembered why I liked it back in the days, haha.

You should post a screenshot of what your game looks like. Perhaps something is wrong.

I'll try the options I received by PM first, if that doesn't work I'll go that road.

I found some time to try out Abyss already, sadly it didn't help... The lines got a little better with anti-alliasing turned on (espacially around the character), but that's all... It still feels glitchy as hell and the static on the grass/trees/etc when walking around is still very bad... To show you that static (EDIT: I guess 'very pixelated' is a better term) I would have to upload a movie, for now I can only show you one of the many graphic glitches with a screeny (this one is with the shadow)
shadow appearing out of nowhere (moving one step means it's gone, and after one it's back again)

part of the background going black all of a sudden:

At least we've defined now the problem goes way further than the anti-alliasing...

what the hell, now I can't even play for a few minutes anymore without the game crashing (both with or without Abyss turned), I'm getting constant hackshield errors.......
I actually got a bit scared my graphic card was fried or something because of those glitched graphics, so I checked a few other games: found no problems there, so it really is Mabinogi.

The game is not supposed to look like that at all.
Your computer doesn't have a graphics card, it has Intel HD which is just a processor with graphics capabilities.

I had the same problem with the shadows in Mabinogi during the time I used the integrated HD graphics on my desktop before getting a dedicated graphics card, though that's really not an option for a laptop... I don't think you can do much for how mabi looks on your laptop.
