They do, a lot of the time people will use websites like google to download malware and viruses onto your computer without you knowing.
In your windows folder, there's a folder named temp which is for temporary files, delete everything in that, that's where viruses usually hide a lot and cant be detected by antivirus programs. :llama_ohnoes:

This. They exist, and they are always nasty.
Their primary attack is based on exploiting human nature- knowing most people will very quickly delete the offending data without bothering to find out the details about it.
People make a lot of money developing these things and selling their capabilities on the black market. Some of the most tech-savvy people in the world are involved in this, developing for anyone willing to pay the price. Usually governments and large corporate interests.

The shit they come up with is as elaborate as a real virus in some cases. Wouldn't call that dumb.

Oh and why bother write malware that activates in the recycle bin when you can instead make it used your cached facebook login info to post a status update on your account containing a download link to it- so that all your friends get it too.
I just encountered such a monster in the wild after finding its dormant form mixed in with some software updates.
Win32/Caphaw is the name of this evil beast, which combines a trojan horse infection with keylogging, rogue antimalware, and facebook spreading capabilities.
Gotta say, they are getting downright nasty in terms of capability. Especially when multiple routes of infection and automated social engineering get included in the package.

reminded me of a virus I once had. for some sort of reason it changed the font of google searchs and careless of what I searched on google, whiel I would get links related to what I searched, the actual hyperlink was always the same weird website.
The really bad thin g abotu that virus is that.. if I tried to do search on my computer using the program names of a program I didnt remember seeing before on my task bar. The computer just force closed. After trying to search a few times(each resulting in the computer closeing forcefully by itself, the computer started to smell of smoke and caught in fire.. lost everything...
