This has nothing to do with collapsible groups or anything. If it's the same problem that I have occasionally than the Friend/Party window is greyed out upon opening. You cannot click any of the options including Add Friend/Notes/View Members/etc. You also appear as offline to everyone in your guild/friend list.
I haven't really found a fix for it, but sometimes it just takes a while for it to change. This glitch/bug also seems to differ depending on which character you log onto. I may have this bug on one character on the account, but not the other.

I know what he means. The friends list has a faded look to it and you can't click anything on that window. I get it when my cpu useage is high. Try loading Mabi after you close all other unneeded programs.

You can't scroll on the friend's list up with your mouse to find the category for your friends either?
