Memory Leak?

This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. I'm not sure if this issue is affecting anyone else, but I'm finally going to say something about it. I've been playing Mabi for quite a while, I've put over 1800 hours into it, in fact. However, ever since I began I've been having Physical Memory issues with it. It continues to consume memory and not release all of the data when I move to a new location. I'd like to know what I can do to fix this? Is anyone else having this issue? If not, should I reinstall and see if this fixes it?

I don't think it's something you can fix and a rather common occurrence to a lot of computers. Best way to keep your memory usage low would be to restart your client every few hours or more often if needed.

Mabi memory leaks like crazy. Goes from 800 mb memory to 1.1 gb in a few hours on mine before crashing. Relog is the best way to avoid it sadly

Also, did the person who posted the video happen to post if he had made any modifications to his mabinogi? Did he also run it through Steam?

My processes and services have been reduced to required only.

I'm going to try running it without Avast running now, I'll report back if this helps.

Update: Disabling my antivirus has no effect. Still piles up data.

Mine hits 0.8 gigs at the start. Then increases up to 1.6 after a few hours. Usually this will lead to my computer having a hard crash not long after.

It seems like basically any error this game can have, it will have. I have four issues always happening with this game for me; it usually fails to automatically install, fails to login to the world 2/3 times, it crashes after a few hours of play, and it doesnt use my native res.

Is it that hard to change the underlying engine to remedy these issues and maybe throw in some SSE instructions too? Im convinced all Mabi uses is MMX.

Hell, AVX would be even better but that'd be overshooting the playerbase in most cases.

Mabinogi has a habit of leaving items in the process, which will caused a 800 memory to reach into 1.2k to even recorded 2k.

The reason is that whoever at devCat made the client, they didn't tell it to unload everything when a map change occurs.

The positive side is that when you load maps, such as Tara, the 2nd time will be faster since traces of it is in memory. Well not that much faster, depending on things, but yah.

Also Mabinogi uses a custom built engine called [S]crap[/S] Pleione.

Well, I've made a full re-install of windows, and am now updating Mabinogi. So We'll just have to see if it was something on my end or not.

Update: Re-install has had no effect on Mabinogi's resource keeping issue. Attempting to find alternate solution. Perhaps there's a way that someone could mod in a command function that forces a garbage collect?

Anyone with windows 8 having this issue? Let me know if so. Windows 8 is supposed to have programming that forces garbage collection.
