  Smogon is a place that sets standards for pokemon battling outside of Nitendo's structure. It's a community focused entirely on meta game/competitive battling with it's own set of rules to follow. There's a lot of pokemon fans that follow the guidelines, tiers, and bans set forth by that community.
  
  It's really complex stuff though Splat with a lot of things to learn and keep in mind pending on which tier/format you select to go with.
  
  As for LoL, I'm not an expert on this but I'm pretty sure Compass or someone else here can help you out there. As far as I know it's some sort of strategic battle game.

  If you play Pokemon to have fun, Smogon is the devil. It will give you all sorts of complicated rules and regulations and requirements and shit to totally buzzkill the entire game until it becomes more like a job than a game.

  As much as I hate to say it, unles you plan on muting a lot of people or are able to handle the horrendously toxic community/ELOs, avoid playing League of Legends before those people break you down or in worst case become one of them.
  
  You're always weclome to give it a try, just practice a lot.
  
  Play a lot of games to get a basic grasp of the game and then delve deeper with this 14-hour tutorial.
  Unless you plan to learn everything through experience and on your own, but that would take months/years, instead.

  Dominion is a lot of fun actually, it's also a good way to practice new champions.
  
  (And there are quite a few toxic players in non-ranked games, Summoner's Rift ones, at least)

  This is mostly true for rankings. Normals people might not care as much (they'd prob still tell you random shit), but for rankings people just argue the whole match if even the slightest thing goes wrong in the beginning.

  Anyway, I don't suggest ranking until you have quite a few games on you and have developed a good knowledge on the basics. It'll be bad both for you and for other players who will have to carry your noobass.

  Don't do ranked until you're experience at the game. Practice a lot, or people will get mad if you fail at your role. And if you are easily bothered by what other people say, League probably isn't the best game, especially since when you start off, you WILL be terrible.
