In Pokémon stadium 1 and 2, there was this weird feature which gave your pokemon unique colors aside from being "shiny".
Colors could range from being slightly blue, to being faintly purple-orange. In one case, I had a Pikachu that was yellow with a blue tint, and a dragonite that was slightly red as opposed to the standard yellow, and silver shiny types.
There was also a way to edit colors of pokemon in gold/silver via gameshark, however due to the 256 hex&decimal limit, only 255 other colors were available for one pokemon.
Do you suppose they should have kept this instead of having shiny and non-shiny?

Somehow, this reminded me of my Gameboy Color with Pokemon Blue/Red/Green where if you turned it on and pressed on one of the four directions on the control pad, you'll switch the entire 8-bit color scheme into another. While I was extremely fascinated with the feature as a kid, I ended up using the original coloring scheme after awhile since a blue Pikachu struck me off as odd(even though the actual colors were basically only on the edges of sprites).
I dunno, I never really liked most of the shiny palettes in comparison to the originals either. I like my Pokemon plain and original.

I would prefer more diversity over the elite shiny pokemon.

Keep your Neopets out of my Pokemon.
Also - I prefer shiny because it's a reward, if you can just change colors of anything at any time to any color it becomes less meaningful. Just like how having level 100 Pokemon in X and Y is less meaningful because leveling up is stupid easy.

What if... said shiny still had the same tiny chance of being found- BUT also had other palettes that could appear? So its still really rare, but has more variety.

That could work, seeing as several of the shinies barely change the color at all or even on some, make the Pokemon look worse.
