By no means do I intend to be arrogant at all but I personally feel like ranting.
I work pretty hard and maybe I do happen to have some intelligence? Regardless, I'm pretty good in school.
My question is: Why the hell am I treated completely differently for having different grades? People are telling me: oh you're only allowed to say certain things because you're ____.
Here's a list of things I've been told somewhat paraphrased.
You gotta stop saying that you didn't do well. It makes you look like a fake. Everyone knows you did well so you shouldn't say anything at all. It makes people feel bad.
You can't comment on the exam schedule being bad. You'll ace the exams anyways. Stop looking so weak.
Stop telling people how you did (after people asked me how I did), it's like your showing off and shoving it in peoples faces.
Stop pretending to be humble.. (When I try not to say stuff).
Do you think you know everything? (when I reply to people asking for help on questions in an open study group).
I don't know if I come off as being arrogant or fake or anything (personally I never cared about matters in this realm of life). I can't really think of anything I've done to provoke people in this manner. Or perhaps I'm so terrible socially that I don't realize what I'm doing.
How higher grade people are treated differently:
But honestly, if someone who gets perhaps 80% on some exam and goes fuck yes I got 80%. People would go nice, good job, etc.
If someone who gets 99% on the same exam and says what they got, other people would go: fuck off, or instantly stereotype them as arrogant.
Or if a slacker says: wow that exam was really easy: Other people go yea it was.
Then some average 100%ter comes along and says that exam was really easy: people give him a bad look.
I've noticed these things quite frequently.
So I guess this post was really just a rant and didn't have much meaning.
But, does anyone also have personal experiences with this sort of situation since I may be biased in at least what I've posted here.
I guess the main thing out of this is: Is there really prejudice against people with decent grades or is it just being formulated in my imagination/perception of what other people mean (as in intend to say) when they say things?
Edit: I normally don't care about these things, but I'm getting pretty obvious implications of this on a weekly basis so.... It's kind of getting on my nerves...
