Can all threads over 1 month, with the acception of popular guides, and helpful topics and posts be locked? I mean, I'm sure it's annoying to see a thread you've made 6 months ago revived by someone who's only been in the forum for 2 days, but it's been happening so much this week.
But yeah, please allow an auto-lock system or something, but leave stickies, and threads like guides, or KR test stuff alone.

I think that'd be best, because sometimes I'll even post in a necro thread and not realize it was necroed, because I only look at the date of the "last post". >_<

I have the answer as to why Osay didn't want this the last time it was asked, here it is:
Is there a reason why threads that would be necro'd aren't auto locked after a certain time? I feel like that would solve all the necro problems semi-easily.
Just wondering why not.
Primarily because that sucks for attracting new members. I'd never join a forum if I google searched something and the results I find are all closed threads.
Pretty much that.

Could just do a soft-lock via plugin that notifies them the thread's last reply is over X days old and any reply to it could be considered necroposting if not highly relevant, and force them to confirm their intent to reply anyway.
No visible deterrent from a searcher's perpsective.
You can even have it notify the mods when someone chooses to do it anyway so that you can nip it immediately if they decide to crap-post regardless.

I never understood why necroing is so bad if the contents of the thread are still relevant

Necroing isn't bad if it is relevant and significant to the thread. However, a lot of necro posts isn't. Just report if you see any, and we will decide what to do.

To be honest, I don't know what the logic behind "reviving a dead topic is bad" is, if it's an interesting topic that people find they're interested enough in to keep replying after it has been revived or is still relevant to current situations. I mean sure they can easily make a new topic, but sometimes you just wanna quote something in an old thread so badly.
I can see how it can become a problem in really really old posts specific to old events, like old news announcements though.
