So I started playing Mabi a few years ago(Idk how many years,I just know it was a little bit after Elves and Giants came out), and I've recently come back. I've still got all my old characters, but thing is,the one I'm focusing on is an Elf with around level 250 cumulative level, and around level 50 expl. level cumulative. Now,the thing is, I think back when I first made my elf,I was focused on range, because I've got things like r6 Mangum,r5 Ranged, and r9 Bow mastery. However,I'm actually planning on being a mage, but I don't know much about how you handle a mage's skill build other than small things like "Max out Musical Knowledge and Composing for lots of int" (I do plan on doing that anyway since I was thinking about investing in bard skills later on).
Also, according to the wiki, characters below total level 300 are free to rebirth every day,and apparently they can also have Duncan reset their skills for free. Should I reset my skills to free up AP for magic skills, perhaps? Also, should I focus mainly on using these daily rebirths to grind though my normal levels,or should I try getting 30 expl. level on every rebirth too?(I'd also appreciate it if I could find out some fast methods of leveling exploration)
I also just got done going g1/g2 for the free AP and Falcon trans. Would it be worth it to do g3 right now for the 40 AP you get at the end, or should I save it for later(Since I remember Baol Final being painfully difficult on my human, even with high-leveled friends helping).
And chances are,I'll probably be just a bit poor until I get back on my feet, so I'd like some suggestions on cheap mage gear. I've probably got some money saved up on the bank, so that should get me some lower-end stuff.
One last thing. I did say I just now got my Falcon trans. But one weird thing I noticed is that when I tried using Elven Magic Missile with any of my wands equipped....it literally did about 1-5 damage, when it did at least 200 damage with my ego bow equipped(By the way, should I go ahead and replace that with an ego wand sometime soon?)....is it normal for wands to do low damage with EMM?
Sorry if I'm asking alot of questions. It's just I've noticed that alot of new skills have been added(Like all of the elemental masteries,Magic Weapon Mastery,Fusion Bolt) and the info I've seen on the wiki so far has shown alot of combat revamps over the years, so to be honest,I'm really confused as to how to build my skills right now. I'd really appreciate some advice.
EDIT : I read the info about beginner benefits on the wiki wrong. I think it said that "Any character under cumulative level 300 may reset their skills at Duncan, rebirth daily, etc etc.". But apparently, this only applies if your account has no characters above cumulative level 300. And of course,my account has a bunch of other older characters that are above level 300, so I can't take advantage of this even though my Elf is only in the 200s. This makes things a bit harder.

Bard skills are generally appreciated by the party. Fantastic Chorus in particular lays down a big fancy symbol that grants HP, MP, and SP regeneration to all party members standing on top of it, good for free MP regen in a couple of situations, so that might go well for a mage.
Elf+Mage takes a lot of AP (Thunder 6->5 takes 40 AP for example), so even though resetting your skills won't stop you from ending the newbie benefits sooner, the AP going into mage would be a great help.
Yes, use daily rebirths to grind through the levels for AP, basic magic training isn't too hard anymore. As far as exploration levels, there's two daily quests I recommend, one for rafting and one for ballooning, that give 9,000 exploration EXP each which is a big help. As far as getting exploration 30... I don't know, I don't grind nearly that hard. For the ballooning you may need somebody else with you at first.
As far as cheap gear.... Hm. I'd recommend fomor weapons from commerce, but a wand from there is 3K ducats per point at 98%... which is less than half the gold cost for a normal wand, don't get me wrong, but you likely don't have a wagon to make commerce runs easier. If you're not relying on the weapon upgrades (and thus don't mind replacing the wands every so often) the 90% repair is just 360 ducats... much less than the 2.7K gold of a normal wand. Commerce can be very rewarding for new characters, as you get gold (same as your ducat profit) and normal EXP (and I'm not talking piddly amounts like 500). But then again commerce is slow and boring when starting out, and gold is easier to get nowadays. Unlike dungeons, shadow missions give a set gold reward that scales up with the difficulty, with some missions giving 5-6K guaranteed gold at the end per run even on the basic difficulty setting.
Magic Missile is broken, yeah.

Lol,you are right about Commerce being slow and boring, but yeah, from what I can see,the Fomor weapons do seem pretty cheap to manage.
But thing is,I don't have any intermediate spells yet,and all I have are my bolts, fusion bolt, and the passive skills,so I'm really not sure what to rank up. Some people tell me I should max out one specific bolt, some people say to work on all 3 at once, some people just say max out the passive skills(Like Magic Mastery for more mana,Composing/Musical Knowledge for Int,etc etc.). And I'm not so sure about getting my intermediate spells right away, because I know that the pages are a hassle to get, and from what I could tell from back when I used them on my old human character, the damage on any of them isn't all that great without lots of int(I'm also assuming that the elemental masteries may help with the damage as well). So I'm tempted to just hold off on all 3 of them until I've got better stats and ranks in other skills to go off of.
Some clarity on what I should prioritize for right now would be nice.

Bolts and magic weapon mastery for damage.
Magic Weapon Mastery's damage is much more than any other mage control skill, but requires a wand/staff to give it's bonus.
Elemental Masteries up to A, they start giving reduced mana usage at rank A.
Magic Mastery, yup, for a bigger MP pool to pull from.

It seems unlikely that you'll rank thunder enough to kill rafting mobs ahead of things like firebolt, magic weapon mastery, etc, so the best way to do these quests would probably be to party with a stronger friend and just avoid getting hit. In return you can buy them stuff with the stars you get from rafting/balooning.
