These are two entirely different things, right?
I confused myself when I skimmed over the title discussion thread and saw the Magic Weapon Master title. The +8 Max Damage part doesn't actually affect spells, does it?
Or do I have this all wrong.

If I recall, max damage does effect magic but it's very minor. It can also be used to effect the physical damage of smacking things with wands. Magic attack is better by far to my knowledge though.

Max Damage has a reduced effect on Magic but it varies from spell to spell, it's calculated with Coefficients:
Icebolt: 0.04 (max damage), 0.02 (min damage)
Firebolt: 0.2 (max damage), 0.1 (min damage)
Lightning Bolt: 0.22 (max damage), 0.11 (min damage)
Ice Spear: 0.5 (max damage), 0.25 (min damage)
Fireball: 0.25 (max damage), 0.125 (min damage)
Thunder: 0.25 (max damage), 0.125 (min damage)
Hail Storm: 0
For example, you have an Enchant that gives you +10 Max. Damage, and the spell you are using is Firebolt.
You basically take Firebolt's Max. Damage coefficient and use it as a multiplier, giving you 0.2 x 10 = 2 Max. Damage on your Firebolt.
Magic Attack is, according to the wiki page, a damage increase to your magic, shown as a percentage.
See
this article for further details.

Yes, it's noticeable in firebolt, but not by hugely significant amount.
In general, I'd think max damage set is better, just because it complements more skill set.
Then you can just have high magic attack hermit staff or savage wands, and reforged rosemary for magic damage.

The title adds max damage because part of Magic Weapon Mastery is using your magic weapon as a true (melee) weapon. For whatever reason.

Those are the old magic coefficients. The wiki has never updated anything regarding the magic rebalance.

You can't ;c
If you meant magic attack on gloves.

Ice spear damage. Probably should have been clearer.
The glove itself buffs ice-related magic, and ice spear damage reforge can also go on the gloves.
With this reforge, you can farm easily in shylien reserve.

Except that you can't even get ice spear damage on gloves?
IIRC spell damage modifiers go only on weapons. Speed goes only on weapons(?). Magic attack goes only on weapons spell books , including the eagle shield, and accessories.
The glove reforge most beneficial for magic is the ice spear explosion range reforge. Level 10+ is sufficient to wreak havoc.

Okay, so max damage does technically affect magic attack.
I think 35 magic attack will be more useful to me until I find the time to hybrid into a more comfortable "damage" class. ' -';

^ wiki is unreliable for a lot of things. It's better just to shove JP wiki through the translator. In any case, I'd like to SEE a glove with and ice spear max damage reforge.
Edit: this reply was for Kyubey.
Anyways, I wouldn't think so quickly about branching from magic. It is, IMO (personal experience), the easiest skillset to reach end game #s.

You can farm Shyllien without any reforges, or gear for that matter.
Not sure why every question has to jump to reforges anyways...
