Great Teacher Onizuka is one of my favorite manga. It does get better because of how crazy everything is, haha. It's one of the few mangas that made a credible and good leap into live action drama :D It's a good oldie.

I haven't read the manga but I've seen the anime. Watched the entire thing in 2 days. Was a great anime and very inspiring.

All I can say is: Keep reading until you finish. Then go watch the Anime adaptation. Then go watch the Live-action Adaptation. Then do it all again.

This. Although I have yet to finish the anime for some reason. Think I stopped at episode 41, and just never got around to watch the other three episodes. :/
