How was this game?
the cat is thinking about getting around to actually try it.
The cat only seen some videos of it, obviously with Yuna in them.
Romance of course
Can't really recall but every Final Fantasy has it (from 6 and up)
6's Terra, 7's Aeris/Cloud/Tifa (the only reason the cat remembers this the clearest is how grossly popular they are), 8 (of course, only female humans like 8), 9 (Zidane and Dagger, forgot her original name)
Haven't touched a Final Fantasy for years.
Can never finish one though, not that interested
Anyways now listening to X's soundtrack.

If you like the ATB system, you might hate FFX's CTB system. That's a major turnoff for some FF players.
Other than that, it's pretty nice. One of the hidden, but prevalent themes of this game is water, which I think separates it from the other FF games.

Too easy and too many cutscenes IMO. The main plot is very straightforward, and the only challenging part is the trials, although there's no fighting in them.
The side quests to get ultimate weapons and such do add a lot of content, though you won't really need any of them. Customization through weapon enhancement and the sphere grid is good too (especially if you like the ability to make your chars OP).
Also Dagger = Garnet

Personally, I'd play FFX for the story more. I'd say its more emotional than 7 through 9. I wouldn't say the game is as long as 7, but probably has better character growth and no freaking emo characters half the time.
The battle system, as said already, is different than others, you get to see who's going next, and no one, including enemies, will make a move until it's their turn. This is where certain attacks come in such as "Delay Attack" which knocks the persons turn a few back (if they aren't immune).
One more reason to play would probably be for Blitzball, FFX2 ruined it if you played it in X2. Blitzball was like the best mini game in FF next to the Card Games in FF8 and 9.

It felt like more of a movie than a RPG at times. That may or may not be a bad thing, depending on if you like it or not. There is definitely plenty of easy to miss side quest if you don't pay attention though.
Basically, it is just another Final Fantasy.

It's ridiculously easy. The only time I found anything hard in the game was the third fight with Seymore and the third part of the Yunalesca battle, only because I didn't have enough Holy Waters to make Zombie Ward armor for Seymore/Candle of Lifes for Zombie Proof for Yunalesca. Once you get the ultimate weapons/weapons with damage limit break, the game becomes too easy. On my 7th playthrough of the game for the luls, I only used Yuna (a character that can't fight on her own for a good portion of the game, relying on her party members/summons), got her Nirvana rod (her Celestial Weapon), and started doing 20k Holys, about 11k regular attacks, hit the enemies before they attack, and when they do attack, I took very little damage from enemies. Very easy mode, especially for a Final Fantasy game.
Story wise, it's okay. It's basically about a kid that travels to the future where the world is terrorized by an ancient evil, so they turned to religion to help them cope with it. So the main character travels with a summoner and her guardians as she pilgrimages to gather Aeons to fight the evil and bring a temporary peace to the world. Typical story where the party questions their actions with being a part of the religion. Too many cutscenes to develop the story for a meh story.
Characters are meh, especially after the awesome characters that IX had. Tidus is the first effeminate blond protagonist (which lead way to Vaan), and he spends the first 2/3's of the game whining about how he wants to go home, and how bad his dad was, and yadda yadda. Then he turns into the stereotypical hero set out to save the world with nothing to lose on his part. Yuna was a very bland character, and if you have the English version of the game, an extremely dizzying voice, because instead of trying to sync the lips to her voice, the voice actress tried to sync her voice to the lips from the Japanese version, which gives awkward breaks. Shouldn't have been the female lead. Auron is the badass character, and he did a good job at that. Great character development for him. Should have been the main character instead of Tidus. Wakka was cool, mostly because he's voiced by the guy who voiced Bender. Otherwise he's just an okay character, filling the older brother role for Tidus. He's also the religious nut of the group, which the story heavily focuses on. Lulu is the sex symbol of the game, and a goth at that. She had the best personality of the female characters in my opinion, being cool and calm during most of the game, but showing her authority and sarcasm when needed. Kimarhi is the quiet character, and with the exception of the small time on Gagazet, has no character development. Only cool thing about him is he's a Blue Mage and also voiced by the guy who does the voice of Bender, even though he says maybe 100 words at most during the game. Then there's Rikku, who's this Final Fantasy's stereotypical hyperactive loli, and other than her fear of lightning, is exactly the same as the other lolis. Annoying and only used by me for dealing with robots until you get another character with Steal/megabuffing for bosses with Mix. Seymore is the main antagonist, is a guy that wants to destroy the world to save it from the evil by becoming said evil, and has the worst anime hair of all time.
Overall, it's good for a rental, or to buy if only for your Final Fantasy collection, but if you're not really into Final Fantasy, then a rental is more than enough time to finish the game's story.

Hmm, did they ever say Tidus's name in the entire game? lol

This. I don't want to play a movie, I want to play a game.

They don't because you can change his name. It would be dumb if they kept calling him Tidus when that wasn't his name.

I loved the game. Looking back on it, I really dont know why I liked it so much. The game was somewhat linear, it was easy, ect. But I still loved it. Storyline was nice. Tidus was kinda annoying, and some people complain about the lack of character development in the other characters in the party, but I was never one to care for such things in a game.
Only one thing, you WILL HATE mini-games after playing that game haha. The one Chocobo "Race" was just flat out unfair.
But seriously, great game. Considering you might be able to find it for really cheap somewhere, it would be well worth it.

Auron himself is what made the game's character development tolerable for me.
Besides, what kind of character has such awesome Overdrive selection? >.> Bushido ftw.
