Pretty sure it's 100 but you can hold 20 character cards even after you reach the 100 limit.

The maximum number of characters you can have is 80. Once you've reached the limit, you may purchase up to 20 more Character Cards at a time for rebirthing.

There was a patch that increased it to 100 wasnt there?

Well I have 79 pets [S](don't ask[/S]), 5 partners, and 7 characters so it's at least 91 for sure lol chances are it's 100 or higher.
