Really bad at puppetry

You should invest some points into your Combat mastery first. Also do Refine life skill. You need STR and DEX to increase your damage when using puppets. It's a difficult skilltree to go into when you're so new to the game, as you need a decent amount of stats to get it to have good damage. Right now it might seem fine, but you will get outscaled pretty quickly when you start doing higher leveled missions.

Pretty much what this person said. Puppetry is my secondary skillset right now, and I can tell you that you need a lot of investment beforehand.

Also, you can't expect to be good at something after 2 days, you're just starting. Of course you'll be "bad" at puppetry, or anything else for that matter.

You didn't seem to have act 6 and 7 and crisis. You most likely already know this but you should get those skills ASAP incase you don't. Your puppetry at that level will be fine. You can start with it but you will need to put a couple of aps into melee and dex like the other two people have already pointed out. Though don't worry about that now. Just have fun with it and focus on ranking control mastery/windmill as your first priority and act 6 act 7 and crisis

Well if you have high Dex and Strength you should be fine with a skill like puppetry but if you have low Dex or strength its gonna make it much harder. Puppetry isn't the best choice ond the list for those who just started playing mabi or a new character... First try building up your strength because wow does puppetry all depend on that. At rank 6 example or your control mariontte one your marionette does 70% of the puppeter's damage. If your damage was a bit low to begin with chances are your marionette won't do too much damage. Try bringing your strength up with leveling up or ranking up in other diferent
Skills and talent such as warrior. Once you think your strength is pretty good and same with your Dex. Go for it! Shoot for the when you are ready, try it out for yourself. It happened to me when I chose puppetry as my first choice xD I stopped puppetry and went with ninja for a while. we are on the same boat! Your not the only one.

Couple tips with combat:

Clicking with your puppet moves the puppet, but shift+left click will move your character instead in-case you weren't aware. Definitely get Act 6 Crisis and Act 7 Climactic asap if you are intent on leveling puppetry as these are the two most useful skills. Act 4 will be useful as a finisher. Most combos will go like this:

Crisis the group -> Use act 7 climactic to hit them all -> run to group and use act 4 to finish them off -> use act1/5 to finish any guys after that.

It'll be a bit tough at first because you have low STR/DEX and puppetry doesn't really reward all that much of either, it's not a very efficient skillset for str/dex to Ability Point ratio. I suggest ranking windmill/refine to 1 to up your str/dex, and for more ideas use this page:

Use the "points per AP" column and find the highest str/dex per AP ratio skills. This should help you choose the most efficient skills to get your str/dex up.
