For March only!

Anyone who doesn't have it should really jump on this opportunity. If you don't have a game you can register, treat a new purchase as a buy 1 get 1 free!

Too bad I don't want any of those games they listed. Would be great if it worked with -any- 3DS game. Then I'd just register my X to get Y. Lol.

Wow, this is really generous of Nintendo. It's a shame I bought both when they first came out. Oh wells

I already have Pokemon X but would love to have that Pokemon Y too.
Too bad that my codes for 3DS XL were exhausted...
Still, not too important since I don't really want to play the same game twice. I can get Pokemon by trading with friends or something.

I already registered my 3DS, do I have to register my 3DS during March, like some websites said?
I have Animal Crossing New Leaf game I haven't registered yet, but my 3DS is registered.
Because I would be bummed out if I couldn't get Pokemon Y.

I don't trust Nintendo when it comes to virtual, online stuff. I'm not interested in any of the games they are requiring you to buy, either. If I could pick any game, then it would be worthwhile to think about this... despite the fact that the 3DS system is pretty crappy.

Found the answer for you from a Club Nintendo FAQ
You are not eligible if you registered either product prior to 3/1/14. You must go through the registration process during this offer's time restriction.
Alas, it will not count.

I e-mailed Nintendo Club about this yesterday, and they said they'll see what they can do to ensure I get a free download code because I registered my 3DS the day before March 1st.
