When you portforward which ip address do you use?
Is there a way I can tell that I did it right?
:cheer:
Edit: And oh is static ip required to port forward?

If you mean you want something from the internet to access something in your home network:
- set your PC to be a static IP so you don't have to keep changing it in the router's rules
- port forward: from the internet, to: port # X, TCP and/or UDP, destination: your computer's static IP (and you might have to specify the port again)
You can provide a screenshot of the router interface for port forwarding too. They're all a bit different but the info you need is the same.

Go to cmd (command line) and type ipconfig. Type in your default gateway in a web browser and find the port forwarding section. The IP you use when port forwarding is the IPv4 address of your device.
EDIT: ^Yeah, use a static IP.

okay...i try the port forward and put everything down right and set my static ip. Used some other site to check if it was close or open and the site said it was close... Am I like doing something? o -o
edit: I followed this site
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/WNDR3800/Minecraft_Server.htm
Made sure to set up my static and used run>cmd>ipconfig /all to make sure my static ip was listed there.

if you're 100% sure you did the router part correctly, make sure you have no firewalls on your computer blocking those same ports. Disable Windows firewall completely if it's a PC, make sure any antiviruses or similar things are not blocking network traffic either.
Also make sure you're not double NATed with your ISP.

Double NAted? My xbox said something about that.

Some ISPs implement CGN (Carrier-grade NAT) in their network design when they run low on public IP addresses. If your ISP is one of them, then you're kinda screwed.

In some cases it's just stupid implementation. They'll give you a modem+router combo device, and then you might have your own router. So you need to configure the ISPs modem to only act as a modem and your router's WAN port can get a public IP. Always happens with Bell over here.

How do I know if it's NAted? I'm getting service from charter. They installed a Cisco something modem and a netgear WNDR3800 as a wireless router.
Oh and when I use a Ethernet cord do I hook it up to the modem or wireless router?
