Sorry for the semi-depressing/morality-questioning title, everyone~
I joined the Tarlach server back in 2007 or 2008- some time during G3, so that was probably early 2008? Dunno... Ahem, anyway! My friendships kept me coming back to Tarlach after repetitive momentary hiatus- the point is, I did come back, though now it's hard to see a reason to play Mabinogi considering many of my friends seemingly left for good (the hard part about being gone for so long at a time is that I normally lose connection with them, usually permenantly. :c ).
I worked... somewhat hard on my character, Bifrost, but if I'm only attached to my character through memories of what was, I suppose I should find something else to stick around for, in another server perhaps. Just not sure where to begin, I suppose. xP
I've heard rumors and possible truths as to the 'death' to mages bit [I'm still a little iffy on that], so imagine my reaction being that, as a result of 'freeze lag' in the past, though fixed now, all of my skills focused around that. That's also another reason of me starting completely new, though I'm wondering if I really should have regrets or not- this is mostly from the rumor-mill anyway, I haven't had the time to actually test out the mechanics again.
Honestly I'm not sure where my question is in here. .-.
Edit: ... Sorry! (Just in case that's necessary which it probably is ;~;)

Well if you're concerned about mages being weak or getting the short end of the stick, that's not the case. They've gotten a ton of buffs/new things to play with since you've quit/gone on hiatus/not really sure what happened, and while I don't want to try to spark a discussion on where they stand compared to other skillsets, they can easily hold their own in most any kind of content Mabinogi will throw at you. The downside is that magic is without a doubt the mosty AP hungry skillset if you want to cap all of it. If you want to delve back in to magic again its definitely worth it to do a bunch of research on what's changed since you last played around with it.
If you want to start over go for it! Sometimes that's just what it takes to get back into Mabinogi again and make it all fresh. Just remember that you can't really mess up your character since growth is infinite, so even if it feels like the chapters of your current character's story have come to an end you can always write a new one whenever you want to, you don't need a new character for a new beginning.

Magic got some new skills that buff damage and add new abilities (like moving with int magic loaded, chaincasting int magic with a cooldown).

mage isn't weak at all now, it's the opposite.
We used to lose all our mana for switching wands, and damage was much lower. That's been fixed, and we got some fancy new skills too. Hermit staff also makes it so you can use all your spells without having to keep changing weapon. I would say mages actually make sense now.
The only thing I would suggest is to still have a decent melee combat base, because no matter what you play as you always will need to tank a hit or two and be able to smash/counter/wm.

Well, what I just read is an experience I've gone through, although I've never crossed over to a different server. I used to have a character named Natalie shortly after Alexina was first implemented, so I made many treasured memories with other relatively new players/veterans that started over. Yet I eventually deleted her. (Was a bit hard to do.)
I started over on a completely different account (which means I lost all my pets), with a name that in no way referred to my old one, but because of prior experience, I easily surpassed my old account after a few months as opposed to nearly two years I spent on my old character. I've made many friends who I love just as dearly as the ones I made in the past. I dearly miss them, yes, but it's okay to start anew. =)
And no way, mages are insanely strong, especially with the Druid update that came out a few months ago. XD I know mages start out somewhat weak, so it's totally understandable if you'd rather build up your character again. As Aisunix said, you don't need to make a new character for a new beginning. Who knows, your old friends might come back the same way you did~ ^^

Well, since you're in Tarlach, I could help you significantly even if it's just with market prices.
As with everyone said, mages are pretty significant. I see people doing 30k blazes casually, and holy shit dat hailstorm damage.
Mages also leads to gunning, which if you use properly, you are pretty much a god for missions and MA (but NA lag...)
(I have my IGN hidden on Nation, but I'll say "hi" if I see you, [S]or stalk you[/S])
