WARNING: This topic might be a little offensive towards religious views and particular moral values.
So, I've been wondering. Is life sacred?
You've seen people being pro-life. People who protects whatever that hasn't been born yet. We've all seen people that refuses to kill, or perhaps even seen people who saves others only to end up sacrificing themselves.
Seriously, is life truely a sacred force, or it's just us and our self-proclaimed superiority?
In my opinion, life isn't anything at all, it's just a natural occurrence. Look around you, you'll probably see people killing stuffs all day. The food in front of you was once alive. Pesticides are used against insects. People smashing ants and slapping mosquitos. If that's so, then why only human lives are "Sacred"?
This is seriously flawed. I've seen pro-life people going so far to send hate mails and live threats to women who've opted for abortion, yet they don't care for a single thing that actually has to do with life? So, if your arguement is about how you're being unfair to the fetus when you're going for an abortion, then what about the cows and the pigs you've been eating all day? Do they have a choice to be killed?
I don't think so.
Well, I would probably say InB4Prolifepeoplewhiningatmenmasturbating, but seriously. How flawed can their logic get?
I'm pretty sure these people are just out there for the sake of seeking attention, seriously.
Life isn't sacred, get over it.
On the other hand, if HUMAN lives are sacred, which it isn't, then even so, why do we need protection? There's already BILLIONS of us on this planet. In fact, the life of the planet itself is being destroyed by us humans. Still think human lives are sacred?
Think again.
We are awesome for killing everything. Awesome for building stuffs and going into space in metal birds. But sacred?
No. Life isn't sacred.
What are your opinions?

Meh, life aren't sacred. We live to create more life, then why die. Life is meaningless.

Not sacred, but when you look around to see how much life we've found so far outside of Earth, you start to wonder how special life or the conditions for life are.
But yeah, life is a natural occurrence. There is no reason for life as there is no reason for the existence of the Universe. Both just exist.
Just natural occurrence.
However, I value my life and I bet a lot of people value their own as well. That's why we regard our existence as special. That's why we don't promote murder or suicide. Even physician-assisted suicide is regarded as controversial, but that's another topic.
Life, not sacred. But intelligent life, that may be somewhat special, who knows.
I'd like us to discover other beings in the Universe during my lifetime. That'd be quite interesting. :)

This is a better statement for me to say than what I was going to say earlier.
As for "Life isn't sacred, get over it", that's still an opinion. What is sacred and what is profane are merely subjective. Any form of life that has a sense of self-awareness will think of itself and the rest of its race as special compared to others; it's a form of psychology.
For all we know, every life could be sacred, and what we're killing could greatly upset the universe (theory of dynamics).
Pro-life is an extension of the idea that all human lives are sacred, and that taking the power to end it is as wrong as any form of killing. Why this does not apply to any other creature is a form of self-importance, which is observed from self-awareness.
Irony to Mabinogi: Fomors believe in socialism and sacredness of all forms of life, and will exterminate any races that oppose it. :XD:

well I dont' know if the word "sacred" would be the right one to describe life but personally I think its "important" lol
just wondering, If you dont value life then you wouldn't really care if someone tried to kill you? Or can you kill someone you hold dear without hesitation just cuz u feel like it..
I think (just an opinion) everyone thinks life is "sacred" to some degree at least.

Those people aren't very clear at all
since it's their perspective
The cat disagrees with intelligent life
those pro-life people are still categorized as intelligent
you can pretty connect it from there

The question itself has no objective answers because it is a purely subjective question.
What does it mean to be sacred anyway?

IMO life isn't even important at all to some people, seeing how we destroy stuffs every day...
Sure, I won't want to die nor do I want to kill or take someone's life... But meh, those pesky mosquitos are grinding my patience to it's limit.

I'm agnostic, but I consider all animal life to be "sacred" (not literally but more or less) except for that of humans. I believe that humans are the root of all evil. Civilization, where a large majority of humans live, is the opposite of nature, which I view as the epitome of goodness. If something natural isn't good, then what is? Of course, everything needs to eat things to survive, that's natural. But the way that humans do it... it's obscene. Do you know how the food industry works? Basically cows, chickens, all that stuff is crammed into huge lightless building where all they do their short lives is stand around in their own waste (they can't really even walk because there's not enough room to, and a lot of them aren't even healthy enough to walk). We actually altered farm animals to make them as it pleases us, for example, we've altered chickens to have larger breasts because that's what we like to eat the most. And now people are trying to raise animals with human organs so we can save more human lives at the expense of animal lives. =/
Well I could go on forever, but I think you get the point. It's not that I don't like people individually, it's that I hate humanity as a whole. I even hate myself, because I continue to eat meat even after knowing how it's been made. I support abortion and gay marriage because both effectively stop population growth, which means less people. (I don't like the process of abortion but it's something I feel needs to be done.)

^I don't believe humans are inherently evil but humans aren't inherently good either. I wrote an argumentative research paper on animal experimentation last year but even at the end, I was ambivalent. ;~; And no, I don't know a lot about how the food industry works. And if I ever did learn about it, I think I might be wanting to go all organic or vegetarian. :c And to be honest, animals are also kind of "obscene" when they prey on each other. I heard some play with their prey, prolong their death, etc before finally eating them.
I agree with EndlessDreams. How would you define sacred?
I value life, but I'm pro-choice. I believe in the freedom of individuals - one's own choice (which circumstances may affect) because its their body. I wouldn't say all human life isn't sacred, and that it's meaningless. Maybe it's just because I'm human or from some egotistic view, but I believe all life has meaning - whether you want to relate that religiously (i.e. serving God) or scientifically (procreation).
To each their own. :]
