Gunslinger is my primary talent, and I'm a Giant. Am I doing something wrong?
P.S. I don't spam reforges
@OP, take note that Guns work very differently compared to bows. A while ago lots of people claimed that guns could replace bows.
No. I just think that Gunslinger is a Support Talent but that doesn't mean you can't use it as a Main Talent. If you compare Gunslinger & Other Talents (Fighter, Magic etc..) you would see that Gunslinger wouldn't be the best Talent to use since there are other Talents that can do better Damage.
Of course Gunslinger can be powefull if you have high STR and INT.

I'm already at Master Archer, so I might mess around with guns as I gather the stuff for the Bhafel. I do plan to start playing hard however. I might do Puppets/Guns. Would that be a good combo? Or would Guns/Fighter be better? I have high Will. Everything is high except for strength, which is stagnating around 200.
From my perspective, if you are an archer and when you're planning to move on to other things, you shouldn't move on just because you're a "master" at it. I'd think you'd at least need the Sniper Title. Like others said, be prepared to spend shit tons of money on the Bhafel combo, because if you're trying to gather materials without spending any gold, it'll take you very very long time. If I were you, I'd rather go into skills that complements range more, like warrior (little bit of dex and defensive/more utility skill set), or better yet, just get the sniper title already. I don't know what you mean by "high", but my standard of high stat is around 600. I consider 500 to be moderate and lower than 500 to be low.

Well, you don't need both to be alright. You can have a decent STR and lower INT, but with the right gears and set up, you'll still be able to do good amount of damage. I'm confident that I can reach close to 700 damage on guns if I bothered to actually get good guns and reforges and rank gunner.

I will say this, any talent in Mabinogi would work if you put your time and effort into it.
Puppetry, Gunslinger, Magic, Ranged, Melee and Alchemy are all viable end game.
I know most players here don't main gunner, so they consider it to be a secondary talent. To be frank I find gunner to be superior to close combat and fighter however that's for another discussion. If you have max damage enchants and high Str/int (I'm talking about +1500) then gunner is very mainable. You do not need reforges, but Red upgrades on guns are quite important
That being said what is your budget? How do you want to plan your character growth?
I'll give you my own personal list about how effective the talents are with and without reforges, also with ap requirement.
Melee - Low ap cost for high str, Reforge an elemental weapon (Strong and cheap cost)
Puppetry - Tedius to rank, Optional but powerful reforge(Crisis Hat), Very good burst damage and Utility. (Strong aoe, relatively cheap)
Ranged - Ranking ranged skills isn't bad, Life skills can be very long and tedius, reforging is not optional. Infact you need 4 reforges(Cs Hat, Fragment Chest, Gloves Mag/CS damage, and Elemental Bow) When reforges work with high dex, ranged is very versitial and high single target damage with Crash shot utility. Great for hybrid. (Relatively Strong aoe/Utility, Very strong single target, very expensive on reforges/requires 4 r1 items)
Gunslinger - Requires high Str and Int. Good burst damage. Attack speed set makes dowras pew pew stronger than AR spam. Doesn't require reforge, but the most important ones are on Guns(Max damage) and Shoes(Shooting rush). Combos well with puppets (Crisis > Bulletstorm). Way of the gun kills bosses very well. Skills have no aiming, which means it executes quickly(Great for Hybrid). (Get Max damage enchants for optimal performance)
Magic - Very high Ap cost, easy to rank skills. CC+4 firebolt single target damage is through the charts. Intermediate magic do high aoe damage. Hail Storm is good to pair with a puppeteer. Shockwave is like a mages windmill except better. Mana shield makes you more tanky than most other skill sets. (Equipment is cheap, even blue stones are cheaper than red stones. Reforges not necessary)
Alchemy - No idea because I don't use alchemy
Personal thoughts on Ranged Vs Gun
Ranged needs reforges hands down. Even if you have +800 dex with max damage enchants, your ranged will be worse than a gunner with the same enchants. However when you get the elemental bow with reforges ranged would do well.
On the flip side if you're comparing reforged guns and reforged ranged I can tell you what I think about it. If you have magnum reforge on gloves ranged would do higher damage. But if you have gunner with attack speed set Gun shooting with dowras would do higher damage than arrow revolver and probably the best clean up skill in the game.
Crash shot has a 5 second cool down to use not including the aiming time, which means shooting rush is more spammable. Also high ranked Shooting rush does more aoe damage than Crash shot without Huntress. However crash shot only gives you aggro for the main target.
This is based on the fact I use both reforged Gunner and ranged, both have pros and cons.
If you plan to reforge then both talents work, both talents need high stats to do well. If you don't plan to reforge don't bother with ranged, go gunner and puppet or melee.

I will say that puppet+gunner is absolutely devastating assuming that you have damage for both. Typically this will only apply to very high leveled players. Puppet to initially crush everything in its path and then gunner to clean up. I use this myself and i love it a lot.
