@Yanm, because I read it only just now thanks to Episkey's quotation:
Margarine isn't really "pure evil". Vegetable oil doesn't automatically kill you, and margarine isn't automatically overloaded with trans-fats.
Please don't think that reading a single non-reviewed popular-scientific book without checking the sources or understanding the science makes you an expert on things...
And again, talking about enzymes, that shit gets fucked up during digestion unless it is artificially insulated with a protective film. Raw doesn't do squat about it. You never digest raw food, because your body processes the shit out of it beforehand.
Raw food is not universally better. Some foodstuff is simply not digestable without being processed beforehand, some is downright poisonous (
and don't forget the "riddled with pathogens" thing), and some is actually better for you afterwards - notably carrots. Also the loss of nutrients from cooking is
dreadfully exaggerated to the point of qualifying for misleading advertising.
I'll just leave you with this link - an actual on-hands science experience. And more importantly food that is beyond the point of help for raw consumption (
tuna that has been left out in the sun just 20 minutes too much) is brought back to safe levels again. If you wanted to take our current groceries supply and use it solely raw, you'd be in for a very rude awakening. People would die. A lot. From sickness and from malnourishment - prices would go up so badly because the lack of usable food thanks to spoiling will drive prices up madly - this either means they can't afford food or
they will wage a civil war over it.
A true raw food diet that gives your body everything it needs without severe health risks is a first-world exclusive luxury made possible only by excessive use of modern technology in protection, preservation and transportation (
ain't no avocado growing in New England). It isn't the norm, can't be, and therefore shouldn't be. A raw food diet is not sustainable.
I am really allergic to raw food crusading, even more so than against organic food crusading. This is not a matter of lifestyle. It's a matter of life.
