I don't recommend getting one for the simple fact that it's still meant for devs, not for end users. I advised people not to buy the first dev kit for the same reason, except the first dev kit was very crude in terms of specs, while the DK2 is closer to what the consumer version will be like. There's also no real content to enjoy with the rift at this time--there's probably mods for games that sort of work, but it's probably far from ideal and not worth the $350.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you need a very powerful gaming system for the Rift to be enjoyable for playing demanding games. The reason for this is that you have to render the games at max FPS @ 1080p (75 for the DK2, I believe)--if your computer can't keep up, the experience will degrade more so than on a regular monitor. I think it's something to do with tracking sync? It was an issue for the DK1, idk if it's something that's been improved with the DK2.
When the next gen of video cards get released, getting games to play at 75fps @ 1080p might be cheaper.
I'm really tempted to get a DK2, though. Being a nerd and all. :C
As for the Facebook thing...

Look at the real picture, doods. It really isn't that big of a deal (aside from the fact that the deal is worth $2 billion--it's a manner of speech!)
Facebook paid $400 million in cash and the rest of it in FB shares. They know full well that this technology is driven by enthusiasm from the gaming industry, and they won't risk sh***ing on their own big investment for short term gain. Nobody is gonna buy an expensive VR headset for the purposes of looking at ads, and Facebook knows this.
It's not the first time that that Minecraft dude is acting like a child. Nobody takes him seriously. I imagine the fans will just make mods for it to support VR.

Don't buy and just cancel your pre-order.
So many game developers deciding to cancel games now.
Are they really? I know that Minecraft dude raged about it, but nobody cares about that. Is there anyone else? I hope no worthwhile devs do cancel games because of this--and I really doubt they will. I want to play Star Citizen in VR. :)
