  Also for the food remark, it's the same reason for not allowing non indigenous animals. People get nuts when you bring plants and fruits. Hell. For good reason too.

  Bouteille is bottle. Usually a plastic bottle of water or even a metal bottle that you'd bring on a walking or jogging trip.
  
  I had a knife in my luggage and didn't have any problems with it. The customs just said that it was fine over there, but not on me obviously.
  
  Also, I brought food back but didn't say anything. It was pastas, too.

  I can understand the issue with fresh fruits/vegetables. Can't even cross the US border if eating an apple so that part always made sense to me.
  What I don't get is why prepared food isn't allowed. For example bringing sausages\cheeses\alcohols from europe. I know a lot of people here who moved from europe, and whenever they visit they try to bring back these kind of things but they get confiscated. They don't get in trouble for it, it just gets taken away from them. I can freely cross the US border with the same type of foods though, my parents will even occasionally go shop in vermont and also do some groceries there for things like meat and other foods of that type, since it's so cheap.
