For example, just now I made a new character and wanted to windmill train. But every time I try to counter with windmill the game crashes.
When I use the mailbox, it crashes. When I skip a cut scene, it crashes. If I ever alt tab, it either crashes or sound stops working.
How do I fix this?:gloom3:

Hmmm do you get any specific error messages when the client crashes each time? Or does it just close automatically without notice?
EDIT: Are you using any mods such as Tiara/Abyss etc?
Generic fixes from somewhat related threads with similar symptoms:
If you are getting something about :
missing mabinogi's bugtrap.dll
Taycat's fix:
Here you go.

CCleaner-"https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner" reliable way to clean up your registries if you haven't already. Sometimes it's just a matter of corrupt and funky registries
I guess the other generic way of trying to fix mabi is to do a full clean swipe/uninstall of Mabinogi:
- Uninstall, then delete everything in the C:\Nexon\Mabinogi folder
- Reinstall or extract the setupfiles manually into C:\Nexon\Mabinogi
- Other people suggest always starting as the Administrator or applying the compatibility mode option [This can be done before the complete removal of mabi to see if that was the problem]
- If the problems continue to persue: you may need to provide your computer specs so we can see what kind of computer you're playing on (maybe it's a graphical problem, etc etc etc)
Best of luck on fixing it ~

Thing is, this is the first/original install of Mabinogi, so there wouldn't be any old files. No mods, it's vanilla. And there aren't any messages, it just freezes for a bit then closes out.

Just digging around I guess to anyone else looking at the thread: what kind of windows are you using/ are you normally full screened or windowed With an application running in the back?
If you have already tried cleaning out the registry/ just continue to try different methods. Run in comparability mode, try playing the game only in full screen (unless you're already playing in full screen), if you didn't end up restarting your computer after the install it may have random problems like that as well. In the end if nothing ends up working, I would try to reinstall it a second time after doing a full swipe of your c:\nexon\mabiongi as your last resort

I'm using Windows 8, full screened.

Open the task manager and go to the tab where startup programs are listed and take a screenshot to show us all of them?

You should ignore the missing .dll "fix"--it's bogus and you shouldn't download random dlls from the web.
Can't give any concrete advice, though. It's most likely a driver issue; you'd have to check if updated versions of drivers are available for your computer.
Oh, and don't run Mabi in full screen; it's known to be buggy. I have a powerful computer and yet Mabi gets odd client lag spikes when running full screen.

I'll try using windowed mode and check my mail. Gimme a sec.
Edit: Nope, still crashed.

^dlls are sketchy to find and to my knowledge are only the quest way to fix the "big trap dynamic library" error without reinstalling mabi. But then again it's fairly sketchy and could go south. The initial post didn't reveal too much information so I just assumed all sorts of scenarios.
@muddy hmm this is quite the error. Have you already done a full swipe of mabinogi and tried reinstalling it? / are you still on your first installation process with the vanilla files?
Also: are you running a lot of excess programs in the background? I know skype causes quite a bit of lag for me at certain points in time as well. Just try using the task manager and exit all excess (nonessential) programs before running mabi
Hope something works :( I understand how frustrating it is when mabi fails or crashes multiple times in a row or continues to peruse

I am on my first install still, yes. I'm trying to wait until I absolutely have to to re-install, because I have a slow internet, so it takes says to DL the game.
And usually, I just have zune and skype open in the bg.

If you're not already I would suggest installing mabi through Steam. It'll take a while to first install it and patch it but once that's done it works fine. I'm also on 8.1 and couldn't even get it to open after installing through the website.

I would also suggest this and I had the same problem. Steam installer rules
