When should you use it, if it should be used at all?
What if you don't have any potions, and would like to see how much money it would take to reach a certain rank?
Here's a calculator to do that... Only for the ranks past r7, though.
NOTE: THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH FB/AR PAGES!

Okay, how it works...
Step 1:
You go to the boxes marked "Mana" and "HW". In there, you simply swap the numbers for the costs that you think would cost for you to obtain those items. As an example, if I were to buy HW for 2000 gold each, and Mana Herbs for 1000 gold each, I would put "1000" under Mana, and "2000" under "HW". (If you want to use Gathering Knives (80g opposed to Tailoring Kit's 200g) switch that number as well)
Step 2: Look at the box to the right to see the estimate for each rank

Assumptions:
1) Player uses Finest Firewood and r8 Campfire to Reverse Enchant (Burn) each item.
2) Player uses Tailoring Kits (200g, 1x1) while training enchanting. This can be factored into total costs
3) There is approximately 10% chance of Great Successes
4) Player uses methods to result in x2 Training: either Druid or Magic talent. Druid Mark Accessory, Double Rainbow Events, or skill training potions will further decrease both costs (in gold) and trials.
Technical Stuff:
Average Cost Per "Reverse Enchant"
When training Enchanting, it is must cheaper to simply buy Holy Water/mana herbs and burn the items to obtain the enchants again (In Tarlach, Alby ES goes for 7-10k). While this is ineffective in lower ranks due to a higher failure rate, the higher ranks of Enchant (r7+) offers a good percentage for a successful burn.
However, the rate is still not 100%. The average is calculated by the Total cost per burn (cost of HW and Mana Herbs) divided by the success rate as a decimal. In the case the "cost" is 2000 and the burn rate is 61%, the calculation is 2000/0.61, which takes into account the costs for failed burns.
"Rank Up In" columns have no use except to give a general idea of how much of JUST that requirement would be needed to rank up. It is impossible to fill in the "Great Success" requirement completely before being able to rank up.
"Average Tries to Rank Up" represents the number of enchanting (and reverse enchanting) performed to reach the next rank. This count is assuming that from all successful enchant attempts, 10% are great successes and 90% are regular successes.
Note that on the "Cost Using HW" column, r4 costs less than r5, and r2 costs less than r3. This is because the training requirements are kept constant within the ranks, but the success for burning has been increased, which means less failures for burning. So if for example you happen to have 3 Enchant Potions saved up, it is most effective to use it for Ranks 2, 3, and 5.
Questions? Let me know.
So it seems that it won't let you edit this, so I suggest downloading the file as an .xlsx file and using it.
As always, sorry if this is a repost >.>;
