If I choose the Vates talent, will I be able to do the Close Combat Grandmaster quest

Your active talent must match the talent you wish to obtain grandmaster for. Even if you are a master warrior, if you are in the magic talent, you cannot obtain seals for the warrior talent.

I think the question is geared more towards the fact that the Vates talent includes "Close Combat" talent as well.

Personally, I do not know since most people obtained and maintained grandmaster talents even before Aces came out, but I really wouldn't count on the Vate Talent allowing you to perform the Close Combat Grandmaster.

You actually only need to do one grandmaster quest while in that talent to start it. Last I remember you could move between talents and still do the specific gm quests of the talent u started in. For instance you can start warrior gm and then rb into magic and still do the warrior gm quests. Though I havent done it in a while, but thats wat I remember.

If that's how it used to be then it's been changed/fixed, he checks your active talent when you click on the talent button and each GM quest is separately given so it doesn't matter if you've already taken or completed some because he rechecks each time you try to get one.
