Honestly I had this feeling the show is dragging for the last 3 seasons. I don't know if anyone notices, but they start doing a lot of those different perspective stories about something mundane, and stories are no longer about Ted's quest for love. So for me, the ending is disappointing but not rage inducing.
What I think is wrong about the ending is,
1. They tore down the core of the show, which is the friendship shared between these people, by the end they shown how distant they were. This show is about how close these people are and the stories these people share, yet the finale spent a good deal of time breaking that down and tells the viewer how fragmented they become.
2. They destroyed the last season in its entirety. They spent a whole season on how Robin and Barney are going to be the couple, this build up is completely wasted, not only that, they didn't even do much with the divorce. Their divorce couldn't be more dull. Job and love? Robin chose love over job since Don, and that was a LONGGGG time ago. So the divorce wasn't even spectacular or noteworthy even.
3. The mother we got isn't the mother we want. The original idea for the writers from way back in the beginning is to have the mother show up kill her off quickly and have Ted marry Robin, that was the plan they thought up to circumvent the first episode. It was a good plan 9 years ago, but the characters evolved since then. Firstly, the viewers accepted Robin/Barney couple. Secondly, viewers love Tracy, Lastly, I am not sure I want Robin to be with Ted. Robin is great as part of the cast, but looking back to the very first HIMYM episode, this Robin is not that Robin. Rolling with the outdated plan is just silly. I mean it would make some sense if they set it up for that ending but they didn't, up to the very end they set up the story to be three perfect endings for these people. Yet by the finale, they forcefully killed off two of these happy couple trying to stitch a Frankenstein's monster out of the remains of their happiness. What did they expect people to react? They wrote off two things we want trying to make something we don't want work. It's stupidity at the very best.

How i met your mother, a funny tv show (least i think so)
I actually didn't mind the ending. Just felt like a giant rubber band to the status quo.

Not really... 5 letter abbreviation could mean a lot of stuffs. The show is good enough to run for 9 years, so there is that. I am surprised because they set up for a completely different ending, qualities aside, wouldn't you be surprised if you expect a goat turd but instead get cow turd?

Maybe I wanted to read the thread and see if I cared enough to watch it. ):

Common Sense? I mean, it took me a second but after reading the first sentence of your post it was even more obvious. How many long running shows with 5 word names fit the abbreviation HIMYM? One. Unless you count shows in other languages, then I have no idea.
