Warrensburg Police Department

This is a follow-up release to the situation that occurred at Warrensburg High School this morning. At 7:50AM a green Ford Explorer matching the description was spotted by a responding WPD unit at Route DD and Maguire Street. The vehicle turned northbound on Maguire. The WPD unit was able get the vehicle stopped behind the Classic Car
Wash located at Maguire and Clark Street. Officers in that unit took positions of cover, waiting for additional back-up units to arrive. Shortly thereafter the officers heard a shotgun blast come from the vehicle. After back-up officers arrived officers approached the vehicle and found that the driver was deceased from a single self-inflicted wound to the head from a shotgun.
The deceased is identified as Kyle M. Wittrock, white, male, age 18 of Warrensburg. Kyle was a senior at Warrensburg High School.
It should be emphasized that no shots were fired at the school and all students are unharmed and safe.
Missouri State Highway Patrol and University of Central Missouri Police assisted WPD at the scene.
