Well ever since G2 I've had this brown light melka that I bought for 40k and I'm looking into ditching it for something else but I have a ton of questions geared towards experienced heavy armor owners.
1.) First I want to know if one armor is better than the rest. Like something that you might see alot of end-game characters using or is it all personal preference.
2.) I'm interested in a Spaika Silver Plate Armor or a Valencia Cross Line Plate Armor. A Valencia looks expensive to maintain and I only have about 1.4m so far. So i'm leaning towards the spaika.
3.) Should I look around for my favorite color with the right enchants or should I dye and enchant it myself?
I really don't know what I'm doing so much help is greatly appreciated!

Do lots of jousting and get a jousting spaika armor. It's not tradeable, but repairable, affordable, and comes with good stats and passive defenses. Then enchant away! :D

Go with what armor you like.
End-game, I don't know, but I seem to see a lot of Dustins and Claus around me. Maybe not awesome, I don't know, haven't checked.
Anyway, unless you know a good enchanter(or you like risks), try to buy your armor already enchanted, then dye it the color you want.

All the jousting armors are 11k per point to repair.

But that's only for 98% repairs, you can always go for the 95% repairs if you're lacking in money. (Also saves you from having to pay Fleta a visit everytime you want your armor repaired.)

Yeah, I just use Nicca and he's fairly reliable. Besides, even if it breaks, it's not like I paid for it or anything.

Well if you're gonna buy a Spaika from an NPC and going to waste 700k, you might as well just save up and buy a val. Val is good it isn't expensive right when you get it, just after and if you upgrade it. Mines 5/5 17 def and like 6 protection still with 10 dura. It's worth it in the long run. You could get a darkness valencia it's pretty nice and adds quite alot of dmg, also the passive defence is smexy.

Valencia is cheaper to repair than Spaika and even has PDs. The only draw back is you need to go to fleta.
Really your best bet is to get any 6/4 armor with a beautiful ES job and your set for life. If you can get your paws on one of those collection book dustins with maxed out stats that'd be the single best armor to get but don't waste your breathe on it. Just get a ncie smithed 6/4 armor you like and either wait to ES later or ES from the get-go before upgrading to your desired path. If your unsure about enchant jobs at this point keep it simple and use imp as it's a nice well rounded "beginner" ES for heavy armor that you can go from there with.
Don't model your entire end game by what others do. Because of my obsession with Taming I plan to use Defensive Otter for my end game armor which will land me with some gnarly strength and defense and then have my victorious the darkness valencia for damage output until the day i save up for basic avenger heavy armor. All my other armors are just for looks or back-up when I'm low on funds.
Don't worry too much about end game equipment until your well into the 4 digit total range and even then only if your skills can support the end game enchants is it worthwhile. If you have rank D combat mastery and a basic ES'd armor it's rather pointless really. So think about what kind of enchants you could use and what is more important for you at this time for stats. If you find your taking on heavy critical and injury enemies up your protection, if your mostly fighting damage dealers focus on your defense. If your focusing on protection get enchants and 6/4 armor that will assist you. If your doing defensive go for defensive enchants and heavy defense upgrades and don't worry too much if it's 6/? since the 6 doesn't change (with very few exceptions).
Keep in mind your money. That dustin may look really cool but in no time at all after heavy dungeoning with it you'll soak hundred of thousands into it for repairs. The only reason a lot of people who are end-game use it is for the fact of it being dustin. I have a friend that has been using his double ring mail with basic avenger on it for ages and has no plans of moving to anything else. Check and see how often you repair and how much you make, if you play casually a dustin set wont seem as much money to you but if you play frequently and dungeon a lot you'll notice it add up much faster. This applies to all heavy armor. Some are more expensive than one would think such as spaika being 10.9k a point at 98% and val being only 9.5k at 98%.
Honestly if your middle ground and judging by your total your nicely along so i would recommend a 6/4 valencia with decent enchants that work to your strong points. Upgrades again are up to what you fight against most prominently. A surprising amount of mobs can use stomp so the stomp resistance is handy at times. The dye abilities are so-so but thats how it goes for most armor sets. That's just me though. You could always get a darkness enchanted valencia if your looking towards damage. Victorious is a nice easy to get ES/burn to go along side darkness if your not looking to spend much. If your after defense you could try for defensive imp but burning and/or obtaining burns for defensive could be a bothersome task, look-up other enchants or ask around for some other options. i'd get into them but i'm tired, lol.
Anyway that's my oddly longer than expected 2 cents on it anyway.

Can a light melka reach the same defencive potential with upgrades as a valencia or not?
But I think i'm going to be snooping around for a nice valencia now :D

All heavy armours can have the same def/prot, but not all can have have Passive Defence. PD can help a lot in a variety of places, and armour PD tends to be more effective than shield PD.

It has a higher chance of activating, lol.
and the fact that you can use dual-wielding is also an advantage of PD armors.
In all honesty, Fleta isn't really that hard to find. People say it's annoying to wait for her, but it's at least less than 20 minutes. Try spamming church PTJs. It'll make waiting for Fleta waaay more easier
