Whats the best place to do this for gold ore?

Erkey Falls is prolly the best place to use metallurgy. If you are looking for 'gold ores' only then you should gather the sparkling ones that are gold-ish colored. They have higher chance to give you gold ores.

Find a nice synth/fragger, dupe lots of gold ingots, then frag them into ores and let you refine them.

I was at r5 or r4 refining starting today, taking advantage of the event life skill exp potions and my refining exp bracelet, and did a little metallurgy. I saw the above and went to the falls, but it seemed like the shining spots were few and far between compared to the beach near Port Quilla. They also didn't seem to be much higher quality drops than Quilla beach, I don't know if metallurgy has anything to do with that.
Ended up buying a bunch of ore for 400k, got to r2 with that, and found a potion for 200k for the r1.

For gold ores I would recommend going to doki doki island during the duration of the event. All of the metallurgy spots on the island are the gold colored type.

If you're an archer, weaving is a common recommendation. If not, post your main combat class so people can help.

You should definitely get weaving done if you haven't already. Being a human archer can be one of the hardest classes to start, so you may want to consider if that's really what you wish to do. I would suggest trying out melee at first, and learning basic melee can help any class including archery. If you haven't already, I also suggest getting either lightlingbolt or firebolt to r1 to use in regular combat.

It's a fair amount harder than weaving, and it gets even tougher with tailoring, blacksmith, and handicraft. You might want to try Egg Gathering instead if you're willing to spend a little more AP for your dex.

Go to Cor Beach: it rains a LOT (the schedule is
here and
here) and it only took me three days to power to r1. After mastering it on a few characters, I think Cor's the best option that doesn't require buying/duping for ore fragments.
Seriously though, I thought weaving was way harder. Maybe that changed because of patches, but..
R8 without Brionac = what the hell.

The old days when one had to hoard literally hundreds of Thin Threads from ballooning, and abuse double rainbow with a Life Skill Potion and cross your fingers and hoping that the ~12% of making a Finest Silk would pop up in succession... Ah the nostalgia
