So I use Merlin's and mainly do Fighter/Mage when I solo things, with Bard to buff myself. I still use the primary setup when I'm in groups, but my music buffs are obsolete when I run with my guild. I never really know what to use in my Aux though; I don't really have the ap to spend on ranking Gunner skills just yet, and I usually end up just having my ego and a rebis just so I can charge/life drain or something. I'd really like to have a fun/efficient weapon to use while my fighter skills are on cd, but nothing really jumps out at me. I guess I'd like to hear some suggestions, preferrably from someone else who mains Fighter.
Thanks!

I would suggest a wand or staff, at least until you invest into another skillset. I can't really think of any weapon that's useful without the associated skills, but I have a feeling you would be interested in ranking alchemy skills.

Oh, good idea. I do have a savage fire wand I bought (it had super high rolls) and forgot about. I should upgrade it for the cc :D And I'll still be able to use the Rebis, too. To be honest, the only alchemy skills I've ever used are just the crafting-associated ones and life drain. I tried to play around with combat alchemy on an alt, but it was so confusing to me haha.

I would recommend using a pair of champion knuckles instead of those merlin knuckles, and then having magic on ur 2ndary. The damage from both will increase exponentially, allowing your damage to become a lot more useful in a party.

Pretty much this. Sell those useless knuckles away to someone who will pay alot for them.
You want a weapon that will do high damage in a skill set, not a weapon that will do lower damage in more skill sets.

That isn't what this thread is about. Please re-read my opening question before replying.

Alchemy is already pretty fun if you ask me, but I also find Lances also pretty badass since Lance Charge is pretty cool to spam (although it kills your stamina)
Personally, I don't find guns to be "fun", so I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm saying that you should have different knuckles for your primary, and a good magic weapon for your auxiliary. You can make the most out of fighter skills from champion knuckle, and while fighter skills are on cool down, you can use your magic skills. A good option for your auxiliary would be a Hermit Staff, ego Fire wand, or Savage Fire wand.

Just out of curiosity, what's the downside of using Merlin's versus something like Champion's? I only took a quick glance at the wiki, but nothing really stood out.

Personally, I don't see too much of a difference either, but I'm guessing the ~10-20 max damage that Champions have would make it much more powerful in terms of fighter skills.
"pure damage or go home" is what I'm hearing from the above posts

Iirc, merlin shyllien knuckles special upgrade is very skewed and messed up. Not only that but you are missing out on a lot of magic damage from upgrades.

Not just 10-20 max damage difference, elemental reforges can pretty much make up for that damage. What really makes the difference is the special upgrade.
You clearly haven't researched enough then. Your knuckles use the 1 handed R-upgrade, while champion knuckle gets the full 2 handed weapon R upgrade. Meaning your potential damage will be different by a big margin. And that 1 handed R upgrade won't help much for magic skills with your knuckles either.
You're better off making blue upgrades on regular mana knuckles, since red is bad on the mana knuckles. Might as well just make it your pure damage knuckles.

Those knuckles arent particularly horrible, but your damage potential is pretty low with them in the end. Magic really needs the damage from the upgrades a wand and staff can get to cover the loss in aoe that u get when u use fighter.

The knuckles honestly aren't that bad for fighter damage, but the complete lack of magic upgrades and reforges would make it a poor magic weapon.
