  Transform as a turtle and hope that the anvil doesn't dare betray a turtle. Sadly this only worked for me once in getting step 5 without failing. I did this at the Quilla anvil. Sadly, I have been unable to replicate this success since :(
  
  Upgrade Anvil doesn't give a shit if you are a turtle, it'll still betray you!
