A Mabinogi that takes out the freedom of talents?
I mentioned a while back in my things you'd like to see in Mabinogi thread. (And by that I mean I think it's been less than a day since I posted that. lol.)
Let me just get the good old copy and past out.
--------------------------
New server: (someone come up with a name)
This server isn't like the other four. You pick 2-3 'talents' and you're locked into them. You get a free rebirth every week and you only get the basic starting pets. But the commerce storage bags are sold in regular shops with a modified and much larger one taking it's place in the commerce shop. Once 50% of your skills are rank 1, you get the option to restart your character if you want.
A few talents might get altered for this to take skills from other talents, or just be completely removed while their skills are given to other talents.
This is for people that like 'run of the mill' MMO's that give you locked in classes to work with, BUT still like mabinogi's combat system (and other things?)
Everyone get's a free character card JUST for this server. You're not forced to play on it. Reforges also aren't on this server.
Editing this in just for this thread post. You can still buy regular pets, just no AoE summon pets, and they're mainly dogs/cats, not mounts.
----------------------------
Now, before everyone pulls out their pitchforks and torches, let me just say this. I'm sure there are a few of you out there that WOULD play this if this was an option to you. I know I'd give it a shot just to see how different it would be compared to regular Mabinogi, knowing I could still go back and play regular Mabinogi. Now of course a lot of things would need to be altered and changed/fixed, but I could see a decent amount of people giving this thing a shot after a while. Mabinogi's freedom is the one thing that makes me stay. I don't even really look at other MMO's that don't have something even remotely close to it. But I'd still give this a shot.
So the question is, would you play it? Would you give it a shot? Would you scream out in rage about it?

I'll basically be Vates talent, I cannot live without Defense, Counterattack or Evade.

Personally, I would not give it a shot. Particularly because I've played the game without those restrictions. But if I were to play a game like that, almost every other MMO other there is like that, I'd rather get a more up to date and balanced game with a less rambled storyline. The reason why I choose to play Mabinogi and not other MMOs is exactly the opposite of everything you said. This game is very liberal, and you can do almost anything with little restrictions, allowed you infinite opportunities to improve and never run out of things to do (that is, until you reach your level peak in the current rebirth, but you never run out in the long term, just short term). This game keeps a constant feeling of being able to progress and improve yourself, rather than some other games that depend on our other immediate ADHD-shiny-awe sensation. What you are suggesting is neither, and the latter is better than none.
That being said, I won't even try it because that is exactly the opposite of what makes Mabinogi be Mabinogi, and the exact opposite of what makes MMOs fun to me.

I wouldn't even bother with it since the whole point on why I like mabi is because it's not like your traditional MMO.

Pretty much this, though must of the time I use Orange and Red skills, this game would become very boring with class restrictions.

Pretty much, though I would try it for the lulz.

Do what FF does, lock yourself to one talent for the dungeon. (With obvious exceptions)

Assuming close combat talent is active all the time, and you choose a talent besides close combat, this sounds like a better idea I may try.

Bingo. The freedom of choice in terms of abilities (as well as not being locked in to certain weapons, armor etc.) coupled with the "infinite" level cap is what keeps me coming back.

I would try it just to see what mabi would be like if it had restrictions but I wouldn't stay because the way mabi is made right now gives it its own uniqueness that keeps it different from other mmos.

I'd probably try it to see how it is.
What has always been a favourite of mine in Mabinogi is the pretty much infinite character progression. I've played MMOs that were class-locked and did get pretty bored of getting all the end-game gear along with cap level for each class I wanted to play. More than anything else, it was repetitive. (That's not to say Mabinogi isn't dully repetitive at times, though...)
I like not being class-locked into anything, anyways.
Being a decently huge fan of aesthetics, what has always irked me a little was playing other MMOs and playing a class with less cool-looking clothes/armor. However in Mabinogi, there's just a combination of everything and I've grown quite fond of it.

I never even thought of that. o,o!

I'm with you on this one. I use other classes to farm stats for one class.

I use bard, magic, close combat, constuct alchemy and battle alchemy in fighting situations. too restrictive.

It's kinda sad, if you were to actually lock the talents the total potential of players would be a whole lot lower.
Would not even play this...
