Heavy Armor suggestions?

I think I've asked this before but I actually have enough money to buy things now. I'm a warrior oriented character... After I finish with warrior I will probably do lance and then fighter and eventually alchemy.

With that out of the way I've been lookign at what armors to get. It seems like it will either be thames or royal knight. Should I focus on any of these in particular? For an offensive character? For thames is the smash bonus really that powerful? Is it possible to get both assault and smash to 10 with that set?

I've yet to finish my own set so I can't speak for myself, but I know it's generally considered a must-have if you're going to be lancing. It is possible to get both to 10, yes.

Even with thames, you can pretty much everything do 1 to you.
That being said, RKA set isn't as good as it sounds.
And yes, thames smash bonus is really that powerful. The 15% damage bonus is pretty much a free elemental reforge level. Not to mention that stacks with smash reforge.

To give you an idea, this is how it looks:

Human 2h smash w/o thames: 600%
Human 2h smash w/ thames: 690%
Human 2h smash + smash 20 reforge w/o thames: 800%
Human 2h smash + smash 20 reforge w/ thames: 920%
Giant 2h smash w/o thames: 720%
Giant 2h smash w/ thames: 828%
Giant 2h smash + smash 20 reforge w/o thames: 920%
Giant 2h smash + smash 20 reforge w/ thames: 1056%

Unless I made error somewhere, that should show how significant the smash bonus is, especially combined with the reforge. Definitely much more valuable than the defense bonus.

Looks like I will be getting thames then, I just need to make sure they add up correctly for the bonus.

Remember though its all based on personal preference. While thames is definitely the best armor for damage it isn't the only thing that can work. Sometimes that extra def/prot from RKA can be the diff between dying or living.

As for the smash reforge you get them on weapons by using the reforge tools. Lvl 20 is the max lvl at reforge rank 1. Lvl 10 for rank 2. Lvl 5 for rank 3. Each level adds 10%.

As for my reasoning in choosing royal knight armor over Thames...

I can hit 8k normal smashes in elite shadow missions with my lance. An extra 15% dmg wouldn't do much for me. On the other hand if you look at Thames and Royal Knight Armor. Thames can get up to 15 def and 8 prot. Royal Knight Armor is 30 def and 19 prot. That and Royal Knight Armor also has 20% ping for melee and range. That extra prot and ping has saved my life so many times that its not even funny. If I had thames on I wouldve died.

I beg to differ. In fact, the 15% would be more signifcant the higher you hit.

As for the OP, even though I do suggest thames set, it is all your preference. Do note though, it'd be nice if you can tell us what race you are. If you are a human, you can make a thames set, but don't expect to use it forever. If you're a giant, that's a different story.

Also, keep in mind that for weapons, you'd ideally want elemental reforges. If you can have good elemental reforge and good smash reforge, consider yourself very lucky.

I think both are nice in different scenarios. I use the RK set because I'm not a smashaholic, but mana shield is still by biggest way of surviving and it isn't affected by def/prot. It sounds like you'll be smashing enough with the warrior/lance sets, so I say go for thames.

My view at is is that if I'm oneshotting the mobs already, more damage would just be overkill.

But when it comes down to it, it all depends on playstyle. Both sets are good sets to pursue. It's that some people will get different mileage depending on how they play. Personally I use lance charge more than anything else when I have my lance so xD

I should have stated that I am a human. I think I'm just a little confused as to how to handle reforges. do you just keep refreshing them until you are lucky enough to get the max? Or is there a way to ...get a lower ranked reforge and then level it up? Like maybe a smash 1 becoming a smash 4 directly.

- I highly recommend the Thames Set. The smash damage bonus is absolutely massive and Smash is the only "warrior" skill worth a damn. Lance Windmill is very powerful and Windmill itself is always useful, but Windmill with a bow (bowmill) is just as effective end-game.

- You "keep refreshing" reforges until you get something valuable. Check the wiki for additional information. Note that the 2 Rank "elemental" double (e.g. Fire 4/Ice 4) is superior to the 1 Rank "elemental" single and it's arguably easier to obtain.

While the Smash damage reforge is useful, focus exclusively on elementals.

Going along with this, I only used smash reforge as a comparison, because it's an additive reforge, so easier for calculation.
With good elemental reforge, human smash can go much higher than what I put out to you.

However, if you want more bulk then damage, go for Royal Knight Armor.

But if you got a ton of money to burn, and feeling lucky. Bhafel Slayer Guard (F or M) is the best heavy armor in general.

Bhafel slayer guard is more for fashion and dmg negation. It only has assault slash enhancement which isnt that big of a deal, its missing the smash enhancement that thames has so its hardly any good for actual damage. I would not recommend using gold on a bhafel slayer guard, its basically a tankier version of thames plate armor WITHOUT the smash bonus which is the biggest reason to go with thames.
