My roommate keeps parakeets outside which is nice on warm spring days but at night it gets cold and windy which can be dangerous for them, and there are cats and raccoons that try to break into the cage at night despite all of that nothing bad happened to them until one day my Stevie opened the outdoor cage and one of the escaped, her mate was very upset by it and started plucking his feathers, I went out today to get him a new mate but as I was putting her in the cage he jumped up and fell to the bottom breaking a blood feather right under the skin. I grabbed the bird and a towel and pliers and kept trying to get that damn blood feather out. Blood was going everywhere and he started breathing really fast. I was pretty sure this bird was going to bleed out on me. After about 20 minutes I finally got it, I apply pressure to the skin so it would clot and prayed the bird didn’t lose too much blood. I set him down and he tried flying away (which he couldn’t because some of his feathers were missing) but he was perky, pretty stressed but was very alert. I set him in a shoebox ran to the pet store to pick up a smaller cage to keep both indoors for since the other one was made for larger parrots and asked my roommate if I can keep them indoors now, which agreed to. I feel really good that this bird didn’t die on me and I was able to help it. I bought them a bunch of new toys, too.
Anyway I have two budgies now
The green one (the one that broke a blood feather) I named Tuna since my roommate never named him
And as for the blue one, I named her Dovah
