Hello everybody,
I wanted to start playing Mabinogi since it reminds me of another game that sadly was taken down recently.I searched the web and forums a bit, found some guides but those guides were really old (like 2 years old) or incomplete.
There are a lot of beginner guides but they dont answer some questions I want answered, mainly the "What should I NOT do?" kind of questions.
If you have useful complete guides for beginners feel free to post them but I am not interested in them that much right now.I know about rebirth and AP and so on.Since i read a lot of older guides and new guides afterwards i got some information mixed up and some things arent really clear to me yet.
Also dont bother posting advanced guides since I'm a beginner, I will learn everything in time and I dont want to spend 10 hours reading all guides and then forgetting most of what i just read because the information is of no use to me yet.
I know its most fun to discover things on your own and I should have fun playing the game, but since the game seems to be a bit more complicated than most other MMOs and there are account bound beginner benefits I dont want to mess up and start over again.
Let's start the asking:
1:When should I rr?There are some posts saying "Rebirth at xx/xx to get your characters to 99/99" but it seems like the newbie benefits like rr'ing (do you say rr in Mabinogi?'cause im used to saying rr which stands for ressurection)every day last till one of your characters reaches 300/300.Also i guess i should lvl all characters to 299/299 (if thats not possible, the closest to 300/300)
2:Are there some skills I should max?I think i'll be going for melee because I read a lot of guides saying Melee is cheap. The problem is, some said maxe "windmill" as fast as you can, others say max it once your level xx/xx and so on.
3:What are some of the biggest mistakes I as an beginner can make?
4:When should I learn what?Im not talking about skills and so on, im talking about "Shadow Runs" and advanced stuff.
I think that would be everything I want to know.If i come up with some new questions and I can't find an answer on google or elsewhere I will ask it in this thread.

If that link's comments are too long.. I'll shorten it for you :P
- You should only rebirth after you get a certain amount "Exploration Level." You can level this by searching for artifacts and by doing dungeons in Iria. For each level in Exploration level, you get more ap and stats. Max Exploration lvl you can have is 30 (30 ap every level) but don't stress about it too much. Just rebirth when you reach around 60 level and 15 Exploration level.
- At age 21 (maybe 20..) you get free rebirth. Take advantage of this free rebirth when your total level is over 300 (meaning no free rebirths every day)
- If you want to be melee, just focus on maxing "Combat Mastery" and "Windmill." Windmill is extremely hard to level later on. There are things called CP (combat points) which you get every level and every time you level a skill. If you level too much or too many skills, windmill becomes harder and harder to level. But it shouldn't be too much of a problem if you don't spend AP (ability points) on EVERYTHING :P
- Check Mabi Wiki and see which skills give ap (Combat Mastery, Blunt Mastery, etc) and focus on those once you get pretty far with windmill (maybe windmill 5). As a melee fighter, lancer, or warrior, you'll need str (well fighters need more Will) but yea. Str helps a lot.
- The biggest mistakes you can make:
_stressing out too much (melee can be a bit hard. you get gangbanged hard)
_Not asking for help. ALWAYS ask for help if you need it, whether in combat or in advice. There are a LOT of in-game pros who like to help others
_Socialize. This will help lessen the stress and allow you to enjoy the game to the fullest.
_ALWAYS search wiki and do your research. Pro's can't tell you everything you want to know. It's not good to ALWAYS rely on them. Mabi requires a lot of research as well
Other than those, you really can't make a whole lot of mistakes.
- Shadow Missions: these are daily missions. You need to go to a stone henge in either Tara or Tali. You get one from each (tali and tara) day. You get good gold and exp (even 3 ap). Once you become higher lvl, spamming these quests will grant you decent gold.

Can you start on Tarlach then? I'm actually quite new myself, but I've learnt A LOT from my friends (they were beta testers.. +_+)
I can help you get started and guide you through if you need anything. (for advice though, I recommend you ask my friends xD )

When you rebirth, you can reset your level and exploration level (that's how you get fast ap. you get ap every level). So if you level to like 70, you get 70 ap, and if it's too hard for you to level anymore and you want more ap, just rebirth.
Windmill is a warrior's ONLY good aoe ability. It's a 360 spin, so for a warrior who fights up close, being gangbanged by others, it's VERY useful :P
ALSO don't waste money on armor and clothing. I can get a friend to smith one for you. Armors and clothing are WAY too expensive on NPC shops (fashion makes clothing VERY expensive.)

(sorry I keep remembering things) Critical and Smash are very important too. Two-handed weapons (2Handed Sword or Lances) give extra Smash % damage.
Critical gives a BIG boost in damage because most people have over 100% crit chance
The max crit chance you can have is 30%. Nothing higher than that, but a monster's Defense and Protection can lower that %. So that's why people have over 100% crit, so that they can keep that max 30% crit, regardless of the monster's Def and Protection rate

well you explained stuff that wasnt explained in that linked thread.
I guess I could start on tarlach, don't see a reason why I shouldnt.
I should lvl up all 3 characters close to 299/299 right?Because that lvl 300 beginner bonus counts for the whole account, right?
I wouldn't have bought clothes anyway early in the game because i thought they would be expensive.
I read that you should rebirth at lvls like 13/13, 10/10 and so on because its faster to lvl from 1-10 than from 59-60. Should I do that or just simply lvl to ~60/15 and rr then?

That is if you want to work on all 3 characters effectively. There is a thing called Saga (It's a story-line quest with 10 parts) and if you finish all 10, you get a Pegasus pet (you can ride, fly around in, and it attacks in AOE when you summon it). People work on all 3 characters because if you finish the 10 Saga quests on each one, you get one Pegasus. So you can get 3 pegasus and summon all 3 of them on any character. (Pets can be summoned by any character regardless of which account you got it on)
The only reason why you would work on all 3 characters would be for the pets. (I honestly didn't care much, and only have 1. I didn't work on my Elf and Giant. Only Human). The reason why I made my Giant and Elf (who are still at level 1) was because I wanted more space. Each character has a bank account, and you can access all 3 accounts on any character.
If you want to lvl all 3 characters for 3 pegasus, you should level your elf and giant to lvl 299, then your human. Since you get free rebirth everyday until you're over lvl 300 on ANY character. As long as all 3 characters are below a total level of 300, you can get free rebirth everyday on each character. (But that's only if you want pegasus. If you don't care, just let them stay at lvl 1). Btw, make sure you start your giant with lance talent (You get a free lance which is VERY cost efficient)
The only thing you should make sure you do is level your exploration. Other than that, you can rebirth everyday if you want. Rebirthing doesn't matter before lvl 300. You can do it whenever you want (but you should level your exploration to at least 15. Ap is important)

Hitelite wrote on 2014-05-14 15:11
The only thing to keep in mind about rebirthing is AFTER you're above lvl 300. I can't stress this enough, but you get a free rebirth at the age of 20. When you rebirth then, make sure you rebirth as a 17 year old. (You can become younger or stay the same, not older). You age every week on Saturday at 12pm. So you get a free rebirth every 3 weeks if you rebirth as a 17 year old. But if you rebirth as a 10 year old, you need to wait 10 weeks for your next free rebirth.
But this is only after you're lvl 300+

I'll start my human then.Depending on how fast I reach lvl 299/299 i will consider lvling the other two characters too.I think now I know everything i need to know for now.

Oh btw, the pet you get isn't a Pegasus, but a legendary pegasus named: Perseus
Pegasus was a pet you could buy with real money. But it's limited and not on sale now.
Perseus is an armored version of a Pegasus which has the follow RANDOM colors:
-Body color: White, black, or.. was it pink?
-WIngs: Random, but most are white, black, and pink
-Armor colors: Random (ranging from red, green, purple, silver, gold)
Most people get all 3 for the color they want :P
(I just got mine yesterday and mine was Black skin, pink wings, pink armor) Not as bad as people who got Pink skin, green armor, red wings xD

Okie. Things to make known:
-Humans are best at magic, but they can pretty much be best at everything. They have 10% less damage in terms of close combat than Giants. But they can become the good in any talent.
-Elves are best at archery. They fire 2 shots of arrows each time. They have 10% less damage in close combat than humans, and 20% less damage than giants in close combat. They have less cooldown on Magnum Shot (archery skill that does good damage). When you get transformation (each race has their own) elves can be GREAT at magic. There are a lot of elves who go for puppetry and fighter tho O_o
-Giants cannot perform archery and are best at close combat. They can wield two-handed swords for humans with just one hand, ALONG with a shield (which humans cannot do.)
Transformation:
-Humans can be Paladin or Dark Knight.
-Elves are falcon sages
-Giants are Beasts
You can see each of their perks in stats on Wiki
Btw things to note: each race have their own skills in certain talents as well. For example: Humans have a special archery skill only for humans called AR (shortened for.. idk arrow revolver?) which lets humans spam 5 arrows in a row really fast. It's a GREAT skill to have which makes humans match elves' strength in archery

Are those 10% less damage critical to be a good melee?
Also "Dark Knight" and "Paladin" sound like melee fighters to me.
--Im taking a look at them on the wiki atm--
-
Hitelite wrote on 2014-05-14 15:45
Well it's just 10% less damage. I don't think critical has anything to do with that, but I could be wrong. Critical is given by luck and will.
You're right about Paladins. Paladins (when transformed) do not get extra int. They however get good stam, str, and etc that a melee fighter would want. Paladins excel in melee combat AND archery (that's why I'mma stay as a Paladin).
Dark Knight on the other hand can excel is ANY class. The reason why I say that is because.. Dark Knights are special. They have a system called "roll." They have a random chance of receiving a boost AND a de-buff on ANY stat. If you see on wiki, you can see that a Dark Knight can have the most INT, but the lowest STR. If that happens, your Dark Knight Transformation will allow you to excel in magic, but stink at melee combat.
Another example is it you get a boost on Crit, but debuff on Dex. Then you can't do archery or puppetry which rely a lot on dex, but you can probably excel in Lance combat or Axes (which have good crit damages)
